CodyC815 Posted January 5, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2012 As much as I'd love to have a full time ship out of Galveston or San Diego, probably out of the fleet. As ships age, they get more and more costly to maintain, and before long they're not even practical.

kruzerci Posted January 5, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Not that crew are always reliable resources, but the LA on Monarch a few weeks ago seemed to hint that she would either be retired or transferred to Pullmantur in the next year or so. It would cost too much to bring her up to the pending ship regulations. We loved her! But, she's 21 years old and it's probably close to time for her to go anyways. She's starting to show some age. Still great for short cruises but I'd be willing to bet her days are numbered.
cruisegirl1 Posted January 5, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2012 I’ve heard the new Sunshine class ship is coming to Port Canaveral, Allure and now Vision! I imagine she’ll likely leave RCCL, but at this point, bookings are open until Spring 2013 M
CRUSINGFAMILY Posted January 5, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 5, 2012 Well Vision is already showing Transatlantic for 2013 from Fort Lauderdale so it is going to be a few years before that happens, perhaps after one of two of the new class of ships being built comes into service in 2013 or 2014 Monarch is still in great shape and they can hold lots of pass for their size and I am sure they are paid for LOL. I think they will stay in the fleet until 2015 or so. Just my thoughts Brian J

Any thoughts on where teh Monarch would head? Pullmantur the RCCL subsidiary in Spain where Sovereign is the largest ship in that fleet.
Cliftoncruz Posted January 5, 2012 #12 Share Posted January 5, 2012 On our recent cruise on the Monarch, our Head Waiter was talking about the future of the Monarch. He pointed out a few interesting facts, April 2013 the bookings end, the Monarch will be sold to an Asian concern, and over the past month RCI has been hiring a large number of Chinese, as stateroom attendants, waiters and assistant waiters. In fact out assistant waiter was from mainland China and had only been on the ship for a week (She was trying hard to understand English and understand our requests-under the circumstances she did very well). On our recent B2B on the Voyager the staff was telling us that RCI has invested a lot into Asia, and has hired a large number of Chinese to train them for Voyagers final destination in Asia. We were also told that Voyager will be receiving some Asian influences on the ship prior to final assignment in Asia. Several crew members mentioned that Voyager will not be the only ship spending time in Asia in the next few years. Please take this with a grain of salt. (crew members positions we talked to, head waiters, higher ups in hotel operations, staff officers, and customer relations.)

We heard the Monarch was supposedly sold early last year to an Asian group, but that deal fell through. We also are in the group that loves the Monarch....but indeed she is heading towards the way of the older ships, and with all the new ones coming out...room will have to be made somewhere. Personally I would love to see a third ship at PC, especially now since Carnival now has a third ship here. Why not RCI?
