Needs_A_Vacation Posted January 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2012 Any recommendations on things to do with kids (10 and 13 yrs) in Key West? Can't take them bar hopping. Don't think they'd be too interested in walking Duval and people watching. Read on another thread that the snorkeling was just "ok"

Read on another thread that the snorkeling was just "ok" Key West Kite and flag shop ---> http://www.keywestkitecompany.com/ Key West Toy Factory ---> http://www.keywesttoyfactory.com/ The view from the Wrecker's Museum tower ---> http://www.shipwreckhistoreum.com/ All of these are within about two-sqaure blocks of each other. Across from the Wrecker's is the Sponge Market. Pjk

banditoo Posted January 12, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2012 Oh, and someone took this while snorkeling at the reef this past weekend. Pjk That snorkeling looks pretty OK to me! We have booked our 1/2 day sail, snorkel and kayak trip including for the kids in our group and hope to get some fantastic snorkeling like the picture. Can hardly wait! peter_krynicki Posted January 12, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 12, 2012 I think you said you are going out with Danger. If so, they will go into the Sanctuary and if conditions are good they will kayak at either Man or Woman Key, either of which is nice because there's a small beach where they will go to explore for a while, and Man key has a neat passage through the island where they will take you unless the tide is against you. This is Woman key And if conditions are good they will take you to snorkel at Cottrell Key which is where there are rays and a nice variety of colorful fish Pjk. banditoo Posted January 12, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 12, 2012 Yes we are using Danger Charters which has been recommended on these forums. Peter on these forums has been so helpful providing additional info. I just got off the phone this morning with Haig at Danger Charters finalizing our arrangements. He was out on the water as we were speaking, so I envisioned him in one of Peter's pictures. A much better work day than what I have planned for work today! I will make a point of pausing throughout my day today and putting myself in Peter's pictures, feeling the sun and the ocean breeze, a little splash or two of salt water, the sound of birds and sails flapping....aaaahhhh.... ajtv Posted January 13, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 13, 2012 There is good Snorkeling at Key West, but not from the beach. You need to book a trip to go to the reef about 5 miles off shore. You could also go to Smathers Beach (a $7 cab ride) where there are any number of activities, including parasailing, kayaking, and, and sailing, available. FLNC09 Posted January 30, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 30, 2012 The lighthouse is fun. Nice view from the top. Mallory Dock at sunset is great. The sunset is beautiful on a good day and the street performers are a lot of fun. Kids will love it. http://www.mallorysquarekw.com/ Key West is a great place to ride bikes. Easy riding and lots to look at. Sloppy Joe's Bar - great place for a meal or snack. It's not the original Hemingway Bar but it has some cool pictures and it's a Key West tradition.
