When will Carnival CORPORATION make a statement?

The events in Italy are truly tragic and with time passing I can't help but wonder when Carnival CORPORATION is going to release some sort of statement about what happened and what they are doing to help?

Today's news shows only reported about financial hit this tragedy may bring. And, in "reporting" kept saying Carnival Cruise Line.

As a regular cruiser (Platinum on Princess, number 9 coming up in 2 weeks on Carnival) - I want to hear from Carnival Corporation.

1. What are they doing to help Costa through this tragedy?

2. What investigation will they undertake?

3. What are they doing, across all their brands, to assure that their safety procedures and staff training are sufficient to prevent a repeat of the reports coming from passengers?

Just saying ...

Official statement of Carnival Cruise Line

On January 13, 2012, Costa Cruises' vessel, the Costa Concordia, departed from Civitavecchia, Italy with approximately 3,200 passengers and 1,000 crew members on a seven-day voyage. At approximately 10:00pm CET, the vessel struck rock off the coast of Isola del Giglio, Italy and sustained significant damage causing the ship to list severely. The order was given to abandon ship and deploy the lifeboats.

Tragically, there are reports of some deaths and injuries. This is a terrible tragedy and we are deeply saddened. Carnival Corporation & plc offers our sympathies and heartfelt condolences to all of the Costa Concordia guests, crew members and their families. Carnival Corporation & plc and Costa Cruises are committing our full resources to provide assistance and ensure that all guests and crew are looked after.

We want to express our deep gratitude to the Italian Coast Guard and local authorities and community members who have gone to extraordinary lengths to assist in the evacuation of the ship and provide support for our guests and crew.

We are working to fully understand the cause of what occurred. The safety of our guests and crew members remains the number one priority of Carnival Corporation & plc and all of our cruise lines.

Costa Concordia was sailing on a Mediterranean cruise from Civitavecchia (Rome) with scheduled calls at Savona, Italy;Marseille, France; Barcelona, Spain; Palma de Mallorca; Cagliari and Palermo, Italy.

Friends and family members may use the following country-specific contact numbers to reach Costa Cruises:

•Spain +34934875685

Just heard a maritime lawyer Michael Winkleman, say on FOX News most cruisers are retired elderly.

What?!?!?

Don't know if that is just an outdated stereotype or if it has any basis of truth. I'd imagine it would hold true on many cruiselines other than CCL. I'd think someone has the numbers to make a claim like that.

right?

it only took the ceo of the miracle of the hudson plane 2 hours to make an announcement.

While both were catastrophic incidents they are hardly the same. Sully became a hero through grace under pressure and it was NOT caused by human error and a death toll like the Concordia trajedy.

Hmmm, let's see, since Friday's event Carnival and or Costa have:

  • Released statements of sympathy/support.
  • Made sure that all survivors were adequately housed and fed and assisted with arranging transport home.
  • Cooperated fully with the investigators and searchers.
  • Threw their Captain under the bus.
  • Announced a very fair compensation plan for those on future cruises of the Concordia.
  • Released a statement to shareholders on their estimates of the affects on future earnings.
