Costa class action seeking $ 160k per passenger

As most of the passengers were Italian, and this was an Italian company where the accident occured in Italian territorial waters, it is almost certain that the litigation will fall to Italian courts. Certainly for non-US citizens, an action attempted in a US forum would likely be dismissed on the basis of Forum non conveniens

I am not going to weigh in on if the amount is enough or not but I would not get in on a class action lawsuit. The only people that will get anything out of that is the lawyers.

Your thoughts about class actions are wrong. As are your observations about the crew doing the right thing during the evacuation.

I believe the one thing I have not seen mentioned here yet is that we will all pay for this tragic event indirectly. Either thru higher insurance rates (passed on by all cruise companies) to their consumers, Or a direct increase to fares to cover this expense.
