Kaye from Chicagoland Posted June 29, 2005 #26 Share Posted June 29, 2005 niugrads - I don't know if this will help you or not, but here goes - We also tried for Sheraton Old San Juan for Jan. 13 - I checked daily since March and was getting tired of the high rates. We were in San Juan last year (Wyndham Condado, but had such a good time in Old Town, we really wanted to stay in OSJ this year). I checked everywhere including a call to the hotel itself - all sold out! Since it's only one night for us (not three) we booked at Hotel Milano - a small boutique hotel in OSJ ($155 for a street front window room - less for a back room) but it's location is great if you want to walk out the door to restaurants, stores, and shopping (just a couple of blocks to the Parrot Club, Senior Forgs, etc. & short taxi to the beach) - we figured we would see enough beaches on the cruise and gave up fighting for rates. I called the toll free number and asked for an e-mail confirmation - got it - not going to worry about it anymore - done deal. website is: http://www.hotelmilanopr.com It may be small but gets great reviews on tripadvisor.com - ranked the #7 favorite of travelers review - above Sheraton which is #15 currently. For one night we would rather stay in the area we want and give up the amenities and opt for good service. Hope this helps, Kaye
niugrads Posted June 29, 2005 #27 Share Posted June 29, 2005 Kaye from Chicagoland- Thanks for the recommendation of Hotel Milano, it looks nice. Do you know why the rooms in the front cost more than the ones in the back of the hotel? It's definitely a hotel worth checking out since location is our 1st priority. Where in Chicagoland are you? love2vacation Posted June 29, 2005 #28 Share Posted June 29, 2005 NIUGrads, Did you go to the Sheraton web site and see if you can book direct and what the rate is? You might try some of the hotels that way. Wyndham, Radisson, Marriott, etc. I found a couple that have rooms when you go to the hotel website but the general sites do not show rooms. Just a thought. love2vacation Posted July 1, 2005 #29 Share Posted July 1, 2005 Never used on line bidding for hotels or travel but decided to try since hotels in San Juan for the middle of March are a little pricey. I decided since most of the 3-4 star hotel were pricing on the reg. sites at 250-400 I would put in a bid of 130.00. My bid was accepted first try for 130.00 at the Marriott Resort. We had already booked the Coral Princess for pre cruise at 145.00 direct at the hotel, so I guess I did OK.
niugrads Posted July 2, 2005 #30 Share Posted July 2, 2005 love2vacation- Did you bid on Priceline? Is that Marriott the Stellaris? I think Hotwire rates that hotel as a 4*. Sounds like you got a great deal!

Sounds like you got a great deal! Yes, I did do Price Line and it is the Stellaris Marriott Resort/Casino. I was thinking I did pretty good. Though the hotel has some mixed reviews I find people certainly have differing opinions about most things anyway! I think 1/2 price was pretty good. March is VERY high in San Juan. JacobOliver Posted July 4, 2005 #33 Share Posted July 4, 2005 niugrads: We are booked for Friday, Feb. 10th at the Intercontinental through Hotwire. We paid $175, which I thought was very cheap after doing lots of research. Will anyone else be sailing on the Serernade Feb. 11th?
JacobOliver Posted July 10, 2005 #34 Share Posted July 10, 2005 Originally I was booked at a two star hotel for $180. I ended up booking through Hotwire for Feb. 10th, Friday at the four star Intercontinental in PR for the SAME price. I also purchased the emergency cancellation insurance for $5.00. I would try Hotwire, they gave me the best price, but you have to pay in advance. I tried every company online, and it was more expensive for February. Maybe you will have better luck. Hope this helps. Let me know what deal you receive.
niugrads Posted July 11, 2005 #35 Share Posted July 11, 2005 I booked a room at the Sheraton Old San Juan for $200 directly with Sheraton. I can cancel the reservation if I find something cheaper closer to our cruise. I called the Hotel Milano as suggested by previous poster but they will not accept reservations until 6 months prior. This gives us a little hope that the rooms that are not available right now may become available closer to cruisetime.
Kaye from Chicagoland Posted July 13, 2005 #36 Share Posted July 13, 2005 Hi! We are from Orland Park - Southwest suburbs. You know I ended up calling Hotel Milano three times in three days and got three different answers - (we were also told the 6 month in advance thing) finally got a booking on the the third call using the toll free number. I asked for an e-mail confirmation and booking number which I received promptly. $135 for off the street rooms and $155 for rooms with a window facing the street. It was just important to us that we stayed in OSJ - I'm sure we will not be in the room that much -I'm guessing it will be fine by the reviews of others. Good Luck, Kaye

GlovesK Posted July 19, 2005 #39 Share Posted July 19, 2005 I just got a Hotwire DEAL :D !!!!! I have only used Priceline before, but I decided to go for Hotwire this time because the 4* customer favorite looked soooo good. Ready? ... I am confirmed for the Inter-Continental for $97.00 bucks plus taxes post-cruise (AOS) for August 14-17. I'm pretty stoked about this folks! I can't wait to call and see if I can upgrade on the cheap too :p ...

Tommy's Mommy Posted October 11, 2005 #41 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Hi Everyone, Booked on the Adventure of the Seas next July 23, 2006. Am interested in any feedback on the Intercontinental. Stayed at the one in Miami and loved it. Also considering the Caribe Hilton and the El San Juan. Thanks in advance.
