Friends of Katmai Posted April 16, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2005 The Pacific Coast of Katmai National Park offers some of the finest bear viewing and photography opportunities in the month of June and into early July. The coastal brown bears are concentrated in the smaller sedge grass and goose tongue meadows along the coast. The end of May is fair bear vewing with June bear viewing fast becoming more popular with photogrphers because of the beautiful flower blooms along the coast of Katmai offering a more unique background and the bears stay in one place for longer periods of time then when they are fishing. It is also during this June/early July time period one will have the opportunity to see bears digging for clams in the tidal flats adjacent to the sedge grass meadows on the low tides. Access to these areas is best from Homer with a 1 hr. flight
