clive and anne Posted July 14, 2014 #6601 Share Posted July 14, 2014 Thanks for that CTH Just waiting for TPP to tweet that the operation is over, but I think the English guy there has gone for his lunchtime pasta.
Al_Frescoe Posted July 14, 2014 #6602 Share Posted July 14, 2014 I have been watching the live feed on and off all morning ... it looks to me like it is sinking deeper.
telken22 Posted July 14, 2014 #6603 Share Posted July 14, 2014 (edited) You've got a point. The deck that was above water clearly on the Giglio live feed is now underwater again, I hope its just some adjustments they are doing or if they are lifting the stern higher? EDIT: I think its just an illusion as its rolled more to starboard. Edited July 14, 2014 by telken22 Addition

SomeBeach Posted July 14, 2014 #6605 Share Posted July 14, 2014 (edited) Thanks for that CTHJust waiting for TPP to tweet that the operation is over, but I think the English guy there has gone for his lunchtime pasta. Clive, tweets I saw on the TPP site: 2 hrs ago, "the ship is detached." 1 hr ago, still another meter to rise before she will move off. Sounds more like some drifting since she's not resting on the platform. She does look lower in the front. Possibly a result from the how they are using the sponsons to allow her to rise. (Dang, brain dead on the proper word I want.) Hope you get where I am going on this. Edited July 14, 2014 by SomeBeach
Uniall Posted July 14, 2014 #6606 Share Posted July 14, 2014 I've lost it, too. Hunting for another one. Back up, but here is another link just in case. http://video.repubblica.it/dossier/costa-concordia-il-recupero/la-concordia-torna-a-galla-la-diretta-dal-giglio/172219/170762?ref=HRER3-1 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/italy/10965351/Costa-Concordia-Watch-live-as-the-operation-to-salvage-the-stricken-cruise-liner-continues.html Another Live Feed. Twitter is lighting up, too, but I wonder if I am the only one in the US who is watching judging by all the tweets from Europe. ;) Present company excepted. Thanks for the alternates. To coin an old ecpression: "works for me." :D
clive and anne Posted July 14, 2014 #6607 Share Posted July 14, 2014 Good Morning to you Micki. She has bee listing to port since the parbuckle. At the start of today's operation she was lifted so for a time she had a starboard list, this was corrected and she was level with that row of cabins looking to be out of the water. I agree that now she seems to be slightly lower and with a starboard list. Perhaps its a problem with the weight of water draining away that's causing an imbalance. I would have thought that if there was any major problems there would be much more feverish activity.
clive and anne Posted July 14, 2014 #6608 Share Posted July 14, 2014 This from the TPP site. 12.00 : The Concordia’s stern and bow are now detached from the false sea bed by about 1 meter. The wreck is floating thanks to the sponsons. Before being towed 30 meters East, the Concordia will need to be refloated of another meter. Technicians have now begun to tighten the chains on starboard sponson S14, as planned.

SomeBeach Posted July 14, 2014 #6610 Share Posted July 14, 2014 (edited) Clive, imbalance was the word I wanted, thanks. Thanks also for confirming the tweets I reported earlier. I really wish this live feed had been set up from the parbuckle view for this part of the project. That live tv shot the LaRepub link had this morning was great. It would have been a better view for when she is moved off. LaRepub link has a news conference going on now. Wish I understood Italian. After about 30 seconds watch closely because it goes fast. http://www.giglionews.it/2014/07/14/la-giornata-1-nei-time-lapse-delle-webcam/ I'm thinking the rest of today will be the continued slow process to raise Concordia. MorganMars Posted July 14, 2014 #6621 Share Posted July 14, 2014 While searching for more detail on the refloating, I came across this video of divers repositioning Pinna Nobilis (pen shells to the casual beachcomber) as part of the effort to preserve the environment. http://www.theparbucklingproject.com/multimedia_detail.php?eid=UEQCEwdeA24EOg%3D%3D&cat=ambiente&type=video These are some amazing bivalves! I had never seen them before and I have done my fair share of exploring the underwater world. It is no wonder that there are people deeply concerned about protecting this beautiful area. More info on Pinna nobilis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinna_nobilis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_silk The bivalve shell is usually 91 cm (3 feet) long, and its shape differs depending on the region it enhabitates. Like all pen shells it is relatively fragile to pollution and shell damage. It attaches itself to rocks using a strong byssus composed of many silk-like threads which used to be made into cloth. This species is the origin of sea silk, which was made from the byssus of the animal. The cloth produced from these filaments can be woven even finer than silk, and is extremely light and warm . . . In recent years, Pinna nobilis has become threatened with extinction, due in part to fishing, incidental killing by trawling and anchoring, and the decline in seagrass fields; pollution kills eggs, larvae, and adult mussels. The noble pen shell has been listed as an endangered species in the Mediterranean Sea. http://theparbucklingproject.com/files/large/8pinna%20nobilis%202.jpg
clive and anne Posted July 14, 2014 #6622 Share Posted July 14, 2014 As I understand it they are now going to fit the chains underneath the hull that secure the sponsons. I wasn't expecting anymore lifting of CC out of the sea further until these chains are done. Not a clue how long that will take. After that I thought she was going to be raised deck by deck allowing time for each deck to drain and when CC is at its sailing height she will sail off pulled by two ocean going tugs Blizzard and Resolve Earl. But there again I have been wrong before. I must admit I am waiting for the bow to rise out of the water
luisrp Posted July 14, 2014 #6623 Share Posted July 14, 2014 I actually think the bow has sunk back to the original level pre-refloat.
