CTH Posted May 31, 2015 #7583 Share Posted May 31, 2015 After 3 years Micoperi 61 (platform on 4 legs) finally leaves Giglio island (pics & video). MorganMars Posted June 24, 2015 #7585 Share Posted June 24, 2015 http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/costa-concordia-captain-francesco-schettino-publishes-memoir-dedicated-victims-families-1507406 We knew it would happen sooner or later: Four months after he was found guilty of causing the shipwreck of the Costa Concordia, in which 32 people were killed, Captain Francesco Schettino is to publish a memoir dedicated to the families of the victims. The book titled Le Verità Sommerse (Submerged Truth) and written by Italian journalist Vittoriana Abate, features the captain's account of the events that caused the cruise liner to ran aground in January 2012, with some unheard eyewitness accounts and details, the publisher said. In a move that is likely to outrage some, the volume, which has Schettino's name on the front cover, includes a dedication to those who lost loved ones in the tragedy. "They are owed the truth more than anyone else," he was quoted as saying in the Italian press.

lightman1984 Posted June 26, 2015 #7587 Share Posted June 26, 2015 I would like to learn more about the operations surrounding the recycling process. Since she was towed to the Port of Genoa in early May, there hasn't been a peep about status updates, pictures, etc. The webcam clearly shows forward sections of the ship have been removed from the upper decks, so things have certainly commenced in the last month. lightman1984 Posted July 29, 2015 #7590 Share Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) Not much news going on I guess, but the recycling website finally posted a status update this week. July 27 marked the 1-year date since the ship arrived in Genoa. http://shiprecycling.it/status-update-concordia-dismantling-and-recycling-project/ Meanwhile in Giglio, M30 also removed the first of the underwater platforms Monday. http://www.giglionews.it/2015/07/27/riportata-in-superficie-la-prima-delle-sei-piattaforme/ Edited July 29, 2015 by lightman1984
cruiseaddict5279 Posted July 29, 2015 #7591 Share Posted July 29, 2015 From what I'm reading, they've already got deck 14 removed, and the top part of some of the taller caisons. This is one time that it would be AWESOME to have some good webcams, or some type of pictures to show progress.

Not sure whether you are aware but there is a webcam in Genoa Port. Clarity isn't brilliant but it updates every 2 seconds, you can move the camera up/down, left/right, zoom in/out using the controls underneath the picture (they are a bit slow to react!) I have to use Google Chrome as opposed to standard Google for it to work. Costa Concordia is over to the left hand side of the port. http://www.partridge.it/Axis214.htm Thanks for the links Lightman. luisrp Posted July 30, 2015 #7594 Share Posted July 30, 2015 Actually it looks like they HAVE removed the topmost deck front and aft. This is where the base of the radar mast and the funnel were located. In fact the little bit of funnel left when it was removed back in Giglio is gone. It can be seen in the webcam which gives quite a good view when zoomed all the way in.
