Christine Frances Posted January 31, 2012 #26 Share Posted January 31, 2012 We are 60 something and eat early at home. We tried late seating but felt like beached whales when we went to bed:eek: Even going to bed at 11-12 does not give you/us enough time to digest your dinner. We feel much better finishing our dinner around 8, going to the casino then the show and doing whatever after that. We sleep much better.:D
PiggyOverBoard Posted February 1, 2012 #27 Share Posted February 1, 2012 I would recommend eating late why? because you can come back from your excursions, have a shower, get ready and then eat and do whatever you want later! Hope you enjoy your cruise! Matthew
ljk76 Posted February 1, 2012 #28 Share Posted February 1, 2012 So happy for select dining because we can split the difference! We also do 2-3 nights of specialty dining, so we would be leaving table mates in the lurch a lot! Early really is rushed, I agree.
msbptg Posted February 1, 2012 #29 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Dinner at 8:30 is just too late for us. You should not eat three hours prior to going to bed. It all goes to fat. But you forgot that its not really 8:30, its 7:30 e.s.t. , as they change the clocks back one hour..
Tenn4ever Posted February 1, 2012 #30 Share Posted February 1, 2012 I don't like either time. 6:00 is too early for us but on an excursion extensive cruise(Alaska) 8:30 is too late when we want to be off the ship as soon as possible in the morning. - After doing some research I found out that many times one is not out of the late seating until after 10:00 - ugh. We would prefer select but our travel companions nixed 'select' so we're going for 6:00.
cGypsy Posted February 1, 2012 #31 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Late seating is better because that is when I am there. ;) Actually, it basically comes down to personal preference. In the real world, I am still at work at 6 so the prospect of having dinner at that time is ridiculous for me. That said, there are evenings that I would like to have a sauna or something right before going to bed and since the spa closes at 10 (11?) p.m., that is difficult to do after the late seating. Of course, there is the Select Dining option but as other posters have discussed that has its pros and cons too. Bottom line, to me, is go with your gut (pardon the pun!). SusieV Posted February 1, 2012 #32 Share Posted February 1, 2012 We're night owls but we're used to eating dinner very early at home (we have a 2 year old), so we're always ready for dinner by 6pm. We had to move a specialty restaurant reservation one night to add friends and they couldn't accommodate us until 8:30 and that kind of killed the night for us. We were tired and bloated and didn't feel like staying up late anymore. We prefer to eat early- we can always grab a snack later if we are hungry.
