Opinion - Best Beach in Mykonos

Paradise and Super Paradise if you are up to 30-35 yo. if you are over 35 and you don't have problem with bars/clubs noise, Paradise is the best beach of Mykonos and one of the best of the world.

Platis Gialos and Psarou if you want more easy swimming but very crowded at weekends and full season.

Korfos if you love sports like windsurfing because of strong winds.

We also prefer Paradise although some folks might prefer one of the quieter beaches on the island. The advantage of Paradise, besides the nice sand and beautiful clean water, are the facilities and ease of taking a local bus from town out to the beach.

Which bus would one take to get there? I've been trying to figure out how to get to any of the beaches and they all just indicate a bus! Also how long of a trip is it to get there and how often does the bus run the return trip? Thanks in advance for your assistance!

You need to catch the bus that leaves from the bus station located over by the Windmills. This is on the opposite side of town from the cruise ship pier. The name of this bus stop is called Fabrika Square and it is considered the main bus station (although not really much of a station). Not sure if there is more then one bus route that leaves from this little bus station, but when you get over there you can just ask the driver if he is going to Paradise. The bus used to leave on the hour (every hour) and it takes about 10 min to get to Paradise. The bus then waits about 5 min and then leaves for the return trip. If you do not want to wait for a bus you might try to get a taxi if you can negotiate a fair price. The last time we used the bus the fare was something like 1.40 Euros (might be more now).

As Hlitner write you must go to Famprikas - Agiou Louka square.. see this map:

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=37.444335,25.326173&daddr=37.442879,+25.328458&hl=en&sll=37.44359,25.327306&sspn=0.003058,0.004823&geocode=Fe9aOwIdXXKCAQ%3BFT9VOwIdSnuCAQ&dirflg=w&mra=prev&t=h&z=18

point A are the windmills... point B is the bus station.. route to Paradise cost 1.60 euro and need 15-20 minutes.. in the same bus route has stops for beaches: Platy Gialo, Psarou, Orno and Ai Gianni

Thank you very much for this information! Looking forward to our stop here and just relaxing after a busy day in Athens.

Paradise is a good choice for anyone in the AM. When we were there in Aug., it was only a bus load of 30 or so cruise passengers until 1pm, several families. Then the party people start waking up. You just walk into the beach club for free and then you can rent an umbrella and 2 chairs for 15 euros or so right at the sea's edge. A guy will come around to collect. Food/beverages and bathrooms are also at the beach club. Calm, clear water. Snorkeling is not very good.

I loved them all. It was a Sunday when we visited Mykonos and there were only two smaller ships in port that day. Not too crowded or busy. Not too hot. Just right and enjoyable.

We got a rental car and wanted to "knock around", sample, see the beach areas, etc. We were not going to the beach to sun or swim. Below are some of my pictures from this day visiting various beaches. This includes getting lucky at Kalafatis beach when they were having a wind surfer event. FUN!!!

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Did a June 7-19, 2011, Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. On the opposite side of the Mykonos village on the island, here's a sampling of the beachside activities. This includes Agrari, Elia and the long sweeping Kalafatis beach that has become famous to wind surfers:

We are going to Greece in May. Is it going to be warm enough to go to the beach?

You can "go to the beach", but what you do there might depend on exact what date in May and what you like and expect to do. Swim? Just sun? Or, be only there, walk around and hang out? Why?

As an example from http://www.wunderground.com you can get complete, day-by-day histories on past weather for places all over the world. For May 10, as an example, the average high for Mykonos on that specific date is 68 °F with an average low of 59 °F. During recent years on that date, the highest high has been 75 °F (2000) with a recent low of 53 °F (1999) on this date. For May 30, by contrast, the average high on that specific date is 73 °F with an average low of 63 °F. During recent years on that date, the highest high has been 82 °F (2000) with a recent low of 60 °F (1999) on this date.

Does this give you a better idea on the temperature ranges in May? What were you seeking or hoping for?

Great pics! What is the name of the beach in the 4th picture, with all of the straw umbrellas? We are going June 9th and I really think my kids will want some beach time regardless of the temps. How far is this beach from where the ships dock?

Two good questions. On location, my rough, rough guesses are either Super Paradise or Elia beach as the name, but there should be someone on this boards who know for sure. The distance is only about four or five miles. Not far. We had a rental car and it only took about ten minutes.

Thanks.

Another question - What is the name of the cruise ship dock in Mykonos or is it a tender port? Is there a beach within walking distance of where we will be docked (or tendered in)?

Hmmm. Not sure they have a specific name other then Mykonos. There is only one pier that can handle cruise ships and its about a 15 min walk from town. The problem is that you must walk along a road with no sidewalks (unless things have changed) which does scare some folks (we have done the walk a few times). If the pier happens to have another ship you might tender right into town (very convenient except for the the time wasted in tender operations).

According to footage on You Tube this would be Elia Beach. Thinking of going myself there, supposed to be a not so crowded beach.

We didnt take the bus. We hired (me and the wife) a scooter each where the bus from the boat dropped us. We found our own way to Paradise Beach. We enjoyed it there for about 3 hours. Paid for a spot. Nice and lively. Took the scooters to go and have a look at Super Paradise. Dead. No one there. Turned around and then went to town at about 14:00. Parked the scooters at the windmills. It left us more than enough time to browse the whole town on foot, eat something, pictures, shopping etc.

Returned the scooters, got back on the bus to the boat.

Going again in June. Gonna do exactly the same except leave out the Super Paradise bit.
