OK What if no wave - HOW WAS THE TRIP

well so many threads about this wave, or whatever people call it, how was your trip before the storm - did u have a nice time - how was entertainment, how was food, how was anything nice for a change.

i am glad everyone made it home safely and thank god no one was injured - had it been later in the day, where someone may have been on balcony, it could have been a tragedy - but overall, how was the trip - i hear people say this is my first, this is my last cruise, hear them bad mouth ncl - but if no wave was hit, how was u cruise.

as with media, it can go on and on and i am just happy that everyone made it home okay. some say staff were nice, some say staff were useless, some say caption did his job, some say he did not -- whatever case is....we will never know the truth unless we were on the ship but would like to hear if anything good happened on the cruise prior to THE WAVE.

I will be posting a more detailed review later, but here's a quick response. We had a great time! Heck, we might use our 50% credit to sail the Dawn again soon. As most have said the crew was fabulous pre and post storm.

I feel that most of the negative comments on the boards and in the news had a negative attitude right from the start with the change of itinerary and such.

The trip had it's positives and negatives. I put this trip report on another board but here's a little description:

Besides the storm and "big" wave, the trip actually was OK. When we were embarking on Sunday, the ship had come in a bit late (around 10:30am). Due to this, just about everyone going on the cruise was in the terminal. We were lucky because our 1 year old was with us and we were able to be one of the early ones to board first. Our muster drill was done on the starboard side of the ship at around 4pm, and we could see that there were still quite a number of people inside the terminal yet to board the ship. However, with all the delays, we were still only about an hour late leaving.

The first day of sea was beautiful weather. We even got a close up of a fighter jet that passed the ship several times.

Port Canaveral - Started out looking like it might rain, but it turned out to be a nice day. Went to Disney and got the baby's first haircut done. Overall, a very nice day.

Private Island - Nice sunny day. Unfortunately, it was a little too windy for us to go with the baby. But otherwise, a beautiful day.

Miami - The start of the downturn. Due to our stop in the Bahamas, we needed to conduct immigration. Everyone had to get off the ship to conduct this. The problem was there was no seating available (we weren't allowed to stay inside the terminal) and it took almost three hours to clear the Ship.

Friday day at Sea - Started off OK. My husband, baby and I had breakfast in the buffet on the Port Side of the Ship. During breakfast, we were able to see a "water spout" about a mile or two from the Ship. However, not too long after this is when the water became a little rough (nothing out of the ordinary at this point). It wasn't until the afternoon that things started to get really "rocky".

Friday night, Sat. Morning - The worst I have ever felt on any Sea vessel. We were on the tenth floor, at the very back of the ship. It felt like we were on a roller coaster for 24 Hours. We were slammed around pretty good back there.

The "wave" - happened around 6:15am. It felt like the ship hit a brick wall. Being in the back we didn't know what happened. A minute later, you heard the Code Alpha Deck Nine alert come over the intercom. At this point we realized something bad had happened. Also, shortly after this, they came over the intercom to advise all crew and passengers to sit down due to us having to turn to the port side (due to the damage at the front of the ship).

It was more frightening because the Captain had said the night before on one of his announcements (he did an excellent job of keeping us informed) stated that it wasn't safe to turn the ship in the conditions. The conditions continued after this, but were indeed improving as time passed.

Charleston - Never so happy to see land :-)

Last day at Sea - A little choppy, but after what we went through on Friday, it seemed like nothing. Also, as we passed Virginia Beach, we got to see quite a few sharks passing by the ship (10-15) on the starboard side. Pretty cool during dinner.

Home sweet home - Got to see more sharks. Oh, sorry, that was the press. LOL. Just happy to be home and the little one is safe.

P.S. - The Captain and crew did a wonderful job overall

I'm so glad you asked this question. There were 6 in my group, my husband and I and 2 daughters and then 2 friends of my older daughter. We all had a good time. The food in the restaurants was better than the buffet but hey, I didn't have to cook it. We had great service in all of the main restaurants, no long waits for tables and a comfortable amount of time between courses. We all ate dinner together every night at 7:30 and would be finished between 8:30-9:00. Our cabins 10576/10571 were always clean and tidy. We had friendly cabin stewards. The reception desk was approachable on the few occasions I needed to speak to someone (pre-wave and post-wave). I enjoyed going to the gym at 6:30 a.m. every morning. I also enjoyed the spa however I really wish that if rules are going to be posted someone should make sure they are complied with but that's a whole 'nother story. The pool are was crowded so I opted to lounge on the upper deck. Entertainment was pretty good. I did make it to the South Beach Rave and Bollywood. The dancers are pretty good. Casino was ok-I don't know what makes one better than another. My favorite public space was the Spinnaker Lounge. I really loved the decor there, too. A few things that slightly bothered me-please no attacks as I'm entitled to this-I really felt the ship catered to people who smoke. I'm asthmatic and had a hard time in the bars. I also hate the smell of smoke in my clothing so I would hang my clothes outside on my balcony to air them out. I know people were smoking in several of the rooms near mine as I would walk down the hall and smell it. It stinks-nothing pleasant about it. I've only cruised once before on the HAL Oosterdam which I feel is a classier ship in design and a different quality of people. More conservative and not so arrogant and me, me, me. I probably will not sail out of NYC on the Dawn again but I will try another ship since we are getting 50% off.

i did not mean it that way mb - i guess i was not on the ship so i should not voice my opinion - it was just so many mixed emotions about the crew and how they reacted to this, mixed emotions about why the captain did what he did -

i am fully aware that it was a scary situation for many on the ship but i guess i was hoping that prior to the wave, if people were having a good time - i guess even if they were, when the wave hit, the good times just went away.

sorry for the thread!!!!!!!!!

Hey Lefty....Lefty here too :p Anyway. I wasn't upset with the cruise line for the "wave" We can't control the weather. I was upset with the way things were handled from the begining. I felt there was very little concern to the passangers satisfation in the begging. (Just with corprate, not wait staff) The food was OK not the best not the worst. I enjoyed Port Canaveral, Miami was just OK. The private beach was very small and very crowded. I didn't even sit down. I just went back on the ship. Which was nice because for once the ship was nor crowded. There was 850 kids on board, I didn't mind I had kids. I did feel bad for the people with no kids though. The entertainment was also OK I enjoyed the variety shows I didn't like the musicals. There was no reason for anyone to be bored ...there was always something to do...infact I missed alot because I couldn't do everything. The casino is fixed, I didn't win anything  HEHE. The resaurant staff couldn't be better. The information desk people weren't friendly at all. Karoke was alot of fun.I will use my 50% off ticket. Then I will decide if NCL is for me. So far Disney and RC are my favs. But even with the "wave" I had a decent time. So that says alot.:o
