Rare TLCOhio Posted March 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2012 From the New York Times travel section tomorrow morning, they will have this headline: "36 Hours: Tallinn, Estonia" with these highlights: "Estonia may be one of the smallest countries in Europe, but right now its 1.3 million citizens are among the continent’s most cheerful people. Last year the country celebrated 20 years of independence from Russia and dropped the kroon in favor of the euro, and its capital, Tallinn, was celebrated as a European Capital of Culture. Unlike many other places in Europe, unemployment is down, and there’s a sense of optimism in the air, helped by companies like Skype that have their main offices here." With this story are many details on sights, food, culture, shopping, etc., options there, plus nineteen different pictures from this historic and charming place. It will be in the print version of the NY Times coming out tomorrow. If you have an upcoming cruise stop here, it's worth checking out this story for some ideas and inspiration. OR, like us, if you have previously visited, the story and visual will bring back nice memories. Below are a few of my favorite pictures that I took during our wonderful visit in Tallinn. Can share more if needed and/or of help. Loved the town's charm, people and beauty. Full story at: http://travel.nytimes.com/2012/03/11/travel/tallinn-estonia-36-hours.html?ref=travel THANKS! Enjoy! This church crowns the hill of Toompea. The church has been meticulously restored since Estonia regained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.: At the top of Tallinn’s Toompea hill, this shows part of the Estonia Parliament building in the historic Pink Baroque Palace and the old Pikk Hermann watchtower with their flag on top: Here is a Tallinn street-shop vendor with various woolen items at her stall near the famous Viru Gate as you entered the lower walled area. This area is commonly called the “Sweater Wall”. Very charming and interesting. Good values and buys.: Tallinn’s rooftops in this charming Estonia Capital from the Toompea/upper town with docked cruise ships shown in the more distant background: Dancers marching in Tallinn’s festival parade near the stone towers of the famous Viru Gate:
