We are doing a 2 night pre-cruise:

1. What are eateries $10-$20 pp within walking distance

2. How about local restaurants close by with great food/service

3. Is the hotel across the bridge from OSJ about 10 min cab ride/$10 ride

4. Is there drug store/grocery within walking distance

5. How close are other casion's/hotels

Anyone got comments on the resort?

Thanks....

I stayed here in February. It was a very good stay for my party. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and our rooms in the lagoon tower were quiet. People on Tripadvisor dot com complain about the beach and service. We had adequate service and I thought the beach and pools were pretty nice. It is a short walk down the strip to bigger beaches.

We did not eat on property as the prices were too high for us. We took a taxi to Danny's (a Mom and Pop type of place) for breakfast since we love it so much. It is down past the Marriott. We walked our food off by walking about 2/3 of a mile back to the Conrad. I prefer the Marriott for the beach and location, but I enjoyed the Conrad.

1. There is a brand new Denny's on the property. It is on the ground floor of the lagoon tower. More restaurants down the street, including a Subway. It was opening 3 days after we left, but it looked really nice and upscale for a Denny's.

2. There is a great restaurant down the street called Ropa Vieja-A little more than $10-20 pp though..

3. Did not take a cab to OSJ, but the hotel is situated at the very end of the Condado strip. It is right next to a bridge that leads to Caribe Hilton and OSJ.

4. There is a Walgreens about half a mile down the street, to the left out of the hotel, towards Condado. You can walk, but it will take about 15 minutes at a fairly brisk pace. It is near the Marriott. There is a grocery section in the Walgreens.

5. There is a casino on the property. There are also casinos nearby in the Marriott and La Concha.

Have a great trip!

The Conrad is within easy walking distance of a couple of restaurants and shops. My favorite inexpensive local restaurant is located about a block up on the left. It overlooks the ocean.

Here is a pic:

It is an easy taxi ride to OSJ- it's just across the bridge, but too far to walk to the old part of town.

I love the resort. It is right next to a small cove beach which is very calm for swimming. There are breakers that prevent the waves from being to rough. The part of the hotel that faces the ocean is too rocky for swimming, but you can walk a short ways to the ocean beach.

There are three pools, one salt water, one with a swim up bar, and one other. I think there might be a kiddie pool to but I can't remember.

They have a very nice casino on the fifth floor. They request nice dress in the casino (opposed to shorts and t-shirts).

They have numerous restaurants on site and an outdoor eating area also that has a nice breakfast bar.

The resort has a very upscale, modern feel too it. There are taxi's available at the entrance that makes it easy to come and go easily. The rooms are modern, clean, and nice. We had a lagoon view with a balcony on my last trip. These rooms are across the street from the main hotel but they have a walkway that connect the two sides. I suspect the ocean view rooms are way out of my price range, but I enjoyed the views from their cafe on the fifth floor.

At night, if you are up late enough, you can watch the ships sail by about 45 minutes to an hour after they depart from San Juan. You can catch a glimpse of the ships in port (at the Pan Am pier) in the distance. The property for the resort is quite nice and well-maintained.

I'm headed there for my second visit next week- and looking forward to returning

MDSue. What was the name of the inexpensive restaurant? Kaspersky prevented me from opening the picture. Thx. Marilyn

Sorry you couldn't see the picture. The restaurant has a sign in the front of it that says "Ocean Front Mexican and Puerto Rican Sea Food." I wish I could remember the exact name of the restaurant, but if you see the sign- that's it. I'm thinking it is the first restaurant that you come to when walking to the left of the hotel (to the right is a bridge). There are a few other restaurants in the same area, but this one had windows that overlook the ocean- when we ate there, they opened the windows and we had a great view and breeze. I'm headed that way tomorrow and will check for the exact name.

If you head out to your left (opposite the bridge) a couple blocks down there is a Chili's Restaurant, also, if you choose, you can take the local bus to Old San Juan for .75 veruses a cab fare, and once you get to the bus station you can ride the trolley for free, just make sure you ask how late the buses run, or for that matter you could always take a taxi back to the hotel,,,,,,,,,we've stayed here before and headed back tomorrow,

enjoy your cruise,

Hi Marilyn, Just took a a stroll past the restaurant and the actual name is

Hacienda Don Jose. It is the second restaurant down from the hotel. Ropa Veija is the first, and there is another restaurant also. All of them look nice, but I'm not sure what the price ranges are

We ate at the recently opened Denny's for breakfast this morning that is located at the Conrad (across the street from the main building). It was by far the fanciest Denny's I've ever seen. The food was good, and service excellent. The restaurant was clean, modern, and nice.

You'll have plenty of options to choose from here

Thanks for all your information. We will be @ Conrad 2 days pre-cruise. Someone on trip advisor mentioned 1 bldg over the other for being easier access for someone handicap. I'm thinking it was the main bldg.(because the other bldg is across the road) Would you agree with this?

I am going to email the hotel prior to our arrival and want to make sure I request the building that will be easiest for my wife. THANKS

There is a skywalk between the buildings, so I think it should be easily handicapped accessible on either side, but if you aren't able to walk far, I would definitely try and stay on the main building (ocean) side.

We were in room 707, which is a "city-view" room. We had an absolutely wonderful view of the ships in port. If I come back, I'll be trying to stay in the same area.

Have a safe trip!
