Lost Olympus digital camera

Recommended Posts

I just came back from my 7-night carribean western cruise vacation but had bad memory. the ship was supposed to leave Miami port at 4:00PM on 04/16/2005, but instead of leaving port, ship had emgenercy drill. I left with everyone but forgot to pick up my camera on the pool area. Only one minute I went back there but the camera was gone!!! I lost my camera before the cruise started. I waited for seven days but no one returned to purser information desk. I wish the person could return the memory card back to me and keep the camera, it is fine with me but I do need to have the memory card back. any one by any chance to see my Olympus C4000 Zoom camera? Please send email to betty_18@hotmail.com

I had bad memory in carnical triumph. My camera was on ship seven days but no one wants to help me!!!

Betty, I'm sorry you didn't think to pick up your camera before going to the muster drill - and I'm sorry nobody turned it in to the purser's desk. I think most passengers are on a cruise for a fun vacation, and don't 'take' things; however, there are thieves everywhere. These things happen. I hope it didn't ruin your entire cruise, and that you have SOME good memories of the Triumph.:)

That's too bad that someone took it and kept it. Was the muster drill a surprise to you? It sounds like you were surprised and had to hastily leave the pool area and forgot your camera. It's printed in the Carnival Capers bulletin and they announce it over the speaker system several times throughout the day about how you should prepare to go back to your cabin to get your lifejacket.

I would not blame Carnival over the fact that the ship was "supposed" to leave at 4 pm, as the muster drill is well advertised and well known. I'd be peeved at whoever took your camera though. Sad to say, there are dishonest people everywhere.

Betty: While it is sad that your camera is gone I don't think it's Carnival's fault.

The sad truth is that you left it and some dishonest person kept it. I honestly don't think Carnival has someone out there looking for lonely cameras....hock value isn't that high.

Did you think to purchase a throw away camera so that you'll still have memories of the good time or did you let this completely ruin your vacation?

Now that you are back at home your homeowner's or renter's insurance should cover the cost of a new one. Contact your agent.

That trully does suck. On the Mircale I found a very valuble camera in the casino and turned it into the pursers desk-- hopefully the owner found it (I will never know)

But for future use...I have a luggage tag on my camera with my name and cabin # just in case.

That's a good idea ! It might prompt the person to be a little more likely to return it......

Man....it sucks to lose your camera.....$$$$$$ and the pictures.

I like to believe most cruisers are honest people........

She did not Blame Carnival ! :)

Oh, maybe I misinterpreted the post. Not sure. But the OP chose "carnival bad memory" as her User ID, so it seems she is saying she has bad memories of Carnival.

She also suggests that the ship was "supposed" to leave at 4 pm but instead decided to conduct an emergency drill. Which I interpreted to mean "I don't know why they decided to hold this drill instead of leaving at 4. I sat up by the pool at 4 because I wanted to take pictures of the ship leaving port, but instead they had this drill and I had to leave the area. I wouldn't have forgotten my camera if I hadn't been forced to participate in this drill instead of watching the ship sail away."

Maybe I am reading too much into her post, but this was my interpretation.

I agree. Eventhough she stated that she (assuming she's a she) didn't blame Carnival her ID and comments do suggest otherwise.

From what I can tell, it sounds as though English may not be the OP's primary language, and sometimes it is difficult to get your point across, or things come out differently... I'm not sure he/she is blaming Carnival for losing the camera (I hope not at least), but I think he/she is very upset and may not know the correct words to say... just my view after reading the post...

OP, I really hope your camera is returned... Have faith, my passport was returned to me a week or so after my last cruise... good luck!

Please don't bash the OP. As suggested earlier, this person's native language is not English. The poster is stating that due to his/her OWN bad memory, the camera was forgotten. I believe all the poster wants is for anyone else on the same ship to keep a look out for a stray camera.

Cheers,

Friday

DH found a camera when we were on the Miracle and turned it in also. It never even crossed our minds to keep it. Sorry you had to experience that on your vacation. Just maybe...just maybe, someone turned it in. Did you leave any contact info with Carnival?

Gotta love the fuzzy logic used by Google's AdSense engine. All four of the advert links on this page are for Olympus digital cameras.

OMG! That is hilarious! Well Betty, at least you know of a few places you can get one ;)

I am sad to hear someone took your camera. I lost my camera on the first formal night on the Celebration on my Girls Only Cruise. Two days later, a very nice couple turned it in to the Purser's Desk for me. It wasn't an expensive camera by any means -- just a 35 mm -- but it already had a lot of pictures on it that meant a lot to me. I was so thankful to the couple that turned the camera in that I bought them one of the chocolate ships and delivered it to their cabin just to show my gratitude. They were very nice people.

That's the main reason I use a lanyard around my neck with camera attached. It always right there, handy to grab and take pictures, plus, I don't have to worry about laying it down somewhere, and walking off. Sorry to hear that someone on your cruise decided they needed your camera more than you, people like that everywhere, sorry to say. Remember back in the day, when you didn't lock your car doors when you parked it, and I remember, leaving the house, and not locking the doors. My, how things have changed.

Usually, you will see me with 2 cameras, one digital, the other, 35mm, both are straped around my neck. Wife says I look like a tourist, but I don't have to worry about losing them.

Hoping your next cruise adventure will be better.

Matt

Matt, I had to laugh at that. Tell her you ARE a tourist!:D Reminds me of my BIL. He was born and raised in New Orleans, right in the middle of the Quarter. He's a natural-born clown, keeps everybody laughing. We were entertaining friends one night in the Quarter, going to one of the nicer restaurants, and were to meet up w/BIL & SIL at a bar before going to dinner. IN he walks, 3 cameras around his neck! We walked to the restaurant, and he was gawking at everything and snapping pictures like a real tourist. It was hilarious. SO, I understand what your wife is feeling.:D "Ain't life fun?"

Same thing happened to me on my last cruise. Only I went back about 15 minutes after I had left the last place I had it in, and it was already gone. :(

Did you have travel insurance? One of the ship's photographers suggested trying to file a claim on it, as my homeowner's deductible is too large to do me any good. It's a long shot, but I'll try anything to get my $500 back. I'm sure they'll point to some miniscule clause in the terms that gets them out of it, but it's worth a shot, right? I'm still keeping my fingers crossed!
