Therin lies an inherent problem; on the mega ships like Alure Of the seas ( which is twice the size of the USS Ronald Regan, our largest aircraft carrier) there are only going to be about 25% of the total people trained ( the crew) Now, consider that maybe 50% of those are cooks, engineers, maint staff, who have no interaction with guests, even in an emergency. This means that there are only 1000 trained persons for 6000 un trained.:eek: In emergency operations it has ben found that the max one person can supervise effectively in am emergency is himself and 4 to 5 others. ( span of control) with 3 to 4 being ideal. To increase the number invites havoc and serious problems. This means ther is no way a mega ship can operate in an emergency within the guide lines of safety. They are out of control as the Concordia demonstrated.. communication collapsed.. it was everyman for him self The NAVY, can because every person on even the largest ship is trained and trained and trained again.. and span of control 1:4 is never exceeded even with trained people. Thus, I contend ,that as ships get larger they have no idea of the risks. That is the crux...we are building floating towers of Babel, and will not fully realize the true risk till we have an incident. When the experts cant or dont know the odds ( which they stated)... dosent that worry you:confused: The Titanic taught engineers and designers a lot of lessons, paid for in human lives. I, dont intend to be anyones experiment.... "Oops!
