Mr. Tom Posted May 3, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2005 I wanna find a couple good Saint Luis Rey Serie A Cigars for me and my buddy while we are there. I know very well there are a lot of rip off artists. Im willing to pay the price for a authentic , and smoke it while im there. I dont wanna get in trouble bringing a Havana back to the boat, but I dont wanna get ripped off either. I am a seriously amature cigar smoker, anyone out there have any tips as to how I can prevent getting ripped off? Or better yet, can anyone suggest a honest shop in Cozumel or Grand Cayman. I really wanna enjoy a good Saint Luis Rey Serie A Cigar with a buddy.. we are celebrating my anniversery with my wife followed by his new job. LeeNHCruiser Posted May 3, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2005 I would ask your on-board shopper expert when you board. We had Erin, who gave a talk about shopping on the Holiday. Also can ask your cruise director. There are certain stores that are "certified" by Carnival, where you are guaranteed to have no problems with. I don't smoke, so didn't get any cigars, but there were plenty of cruisers who did. Carnival allows you to smoke them on board in a designated area. They do tell you to smoke them all before you debark ~ $1000 fine if you get caught with one in your luggage.
markbuck Posted May 3, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2005 Sorry, but I can't remember the name of the store which had real Cubans, but if someone is trying to sell you a Cuban for under $10, don't do it. Plan on spending $10-$20 for a real Cuban.
serene56 Posted May 3, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2005 In Grand Cayman once you get to the pier...cross the street and go into the shopping center there. There is a nice cigar shop located in that center. Very knowlegable people too http://www.caymanislandsdiscounts.com/LaCasadelHabano.htm

rebeljohn Posted May 4, 2005 #6 Share Posted May 4, 2005 Mr. Tom......... The La Casa Del Habano has stores in Cozumel and Grand Cayman. The one in Grand Cayman is just across from the tender pier. See Wallace there. The one in Cozumel also has the name Havana House posted on the outside. Be careful when buying Cubans. Buy only from the LCDH stores, and you will be getting the real thing. Cheeky Posted May 4, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 4, 2005 I dont wanna get in trouble bringing a Havana back to the boat, but I dont wanna get ripped off either. You're allowed bringing Cuban cigars back onto the ship. You're just not allowed bringing them back onto American land. There are even cigar lounges on the ships. Don't worry about that part. hstrybuf Posted May 4, 2005 #10 Share Posted May 4, 2005 On the main street downtown you will find the Havana Club. It's upstairs by way of a narrow staircase. There you will find air conditioning (thank heavens!), food, drinks and a large walk-in humidor with a very good selection of cigars. When we were last there, the buyer had just returned from Cuba. (yes, they can go there while we cannot) Each person in your party receives a complimentary cigar and you will be escorted into the humidor to do your shopping. :)
CTMak Posted May 4, 2005 #11 Share Posted May 4, 2005 HstryBuff is right: The Havana Club. We found our way there on our there 2 cruises ago, and it seemed like half the crew was there including the CD, the assistant CD, and a social host. And if anybody knows the place for cigars, you gotta figure it's them. CTMak

StacyandTim Posted May 4, 2005 #13 Share Posted May 4, 2005 At Senor Frogs in Cozumel.....when coming OUT the front door, turn right....go directly straight ahead of you. There will be a shop directly in front of you. They also sell "other" stuff such as jewelry and that. Go in there....we bought some GREAT cigars (cubans)....of course, you have to really bargain for prices, but it's well worth it. Email me if you want more info.
