Smoking on cruise ships.

I'm talking about cigarettes, cigars and pipes. I did a search but most of what I read was written in 2010. I'm wondering what the current smoking policies are.

If you want to sail to Bermuda, three cruise lines primarily sail there; Royal Caribbean, Holland America, and Norwegian.

 

You can either post on the Cruise Critic boards for those three lines or just go to their respective cruise line sites and you can look up the smoking policies.

Most cruiselines allow cigarettes in designated areas.....some will have cigar bars, but you can generally smoke those in the smoking areas outside, too. I would imagine that would go for pipes, as well.

 

Some lines are more restrictive than others. Some allow smoking on cabin balconies, some don't. Few (if any) still allow smoking in the cabins themselves, and most ships have very limited indoor smoking venues anymore.

The rules have been changing, so where smoking is allowed today, it may be restricted tomorrow

Im a smoker..:o and i was told i can smoke on my balcony on the NCL Sun. :) some other lines dont allow it any more...:rolleyes:

At this time NCL does allow smoking on balconies. They ask you to close your sliding door while outside. There is always one side of the ship outside that has a smoking area as well as the Cigar lounge and usually 1 outside bar. You can also smoke in the casino.

• Northern Lights Disco (ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam only)
  
• Seaview Bar (except that smoking is not permitted in the Seaview Bar on the ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam or ms Statendam)

While smoking is not permitted in staterooms, guests are allowed to smoke on stateroom verandahs. Smoking is permitted on certain other designated, outside decks. Cigar and pipe smoking is not allowed inside the ship; it is only permitted on the outside decks where smoking is otherwise allowed.

Currently, I feel sorry for smokers. I was addicted for my entire life, until I quit four years ago. Hardest and bestest thing I have ever done. No more am I slave to those things.

 

My god, what would happen if you ran out of ciggies in the middle of the ocean? I think that was my greatest fear that made me eschew cruising until recently. The thought of having to swim to the nearest 7-11, and me with my diminished lung capacity.

 

Do they even sell them on the boat? What, $20 a pack?

 

Have they ever done a "cold turkey" cruise? One where smokers go on a boat and don't have access to cigarettes for a couple of weeks. Seminars and meditation classes, nutrition and cleansing instruction, but no cigarettes for many miles. Phillip Morris could foot the bill.

Actually, I make others I know who cruise and don't smoke buy me cigarettes to bring back with them! You can get a carton of Pal Malls (we normally do Roll Your Owns not, but if I have to buy a pack it's Pal Mall 100's) for less than $20 for the whole carton. I have heard that most cruise lines will sell single packs at the bars on the ship for a larger price tag though.

That sounds like a great idea for a reality show lol Play survivor but everyone arrives without cigs and goes cold-turkey. Take the game to a whole new level lol
