boingy300 Posted June 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2012 It was our first Carnival. We've sailed Holland, Disney and lots of Royal. We think any cruise is a good cruise. There are some things we liked more on other ships, some things we liked less. I would sail Carnival again if the price/trip appealed to me. I absolutely LOVED St. Lucia. Our tour to the Pitons/ Volcano was probably one of the best tours we've ever done. I don't have time to post a long review, but I did take lots of pictures. It was VERY hot and humid (and we go to Haiti a lot, so we know hot & humid!) BUT we knew it was June and summer and we got what we expected. Things we didn't like (JUST my opinion, no haters!): Delayed boarding until almost 130pm! I was a tad disappointed in SOME of the food. Lots of variety, but lacking taste (brown gravy on prime rib is not au jus) and eggs benedict looked like it had been under a warming light for hours- ick. Themes were just hornier/sexualized on this ship than any I've cruised on. It felt forced. Lots of kids around, but hey- it's June! Iwish the staff were more diverse. Many were from the Philippines (and were excellent!) but I like diversity. MINOR things overall and would NOT keep us from doing another one...... Things we liked: Donkey. He lead most of our games and was a team leader/player. My son really liked the karaoke and even ended up being Elvis on the last night. The warm melting cake was maybe the best dessert I've ever eaten. The wine tasting was reasonable and good for newbies. I still like when the staff dances at dinner. My favorite and I'll say it again was the tour with Spencer Ambrose (Jalouise Beach with an add on Volcano tour) Here is a link to my pics if anyone is interested. Hope you have a blast on your cruise! Karen http://travel.webshots.com/album/582988692PBxhVn

funcruisingmom Posted June 20, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2012 We sailed the Victory in early May. We were disappointed with the food. Donkey was lots of fun. Victory isn't one of our favorite ships but loved the ports.

boingy300 Posted June 20, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted June 20, 2012 I thought of more things I liked- the "Wok" in the Lido deck. The laundry but really for $3 wash/$3 dry plus 2 hours we preferred the bag for $15 and have the cruise line do it. (We did both). Our son had to meet us in St. Thomas and getting him on the ship was really no hassle. Trying to warn them ahead of time was. Amusing thing they did was play Lil Jon's "Get Low" at dinner time which is a song I like but dinner? Goggle the lyrics. When that came on and the wait staff jumped on their podiums I had a "We're not in Kansas anymore" moment. Overall it was a great cruise, older ship. Anyday on the sea is a good day! boingy300 Posted June 20, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted June 20, 2012 Great pics... I laughed at "hangin in Snoop Doggs limo" lol.. We'd say where should we meet "Snoop Dogg's Limo or the hog trough?" Translation- the Red & Black Lounge or the Lido deck? I also forgot to mention people (fellow cruisers) bringing their boom boxes from the ship for the beach.... a cruise ship first. Amusing. The muster had a heat index of 100, we were stacked 3-4 rows deep and had to hear it in 2 languages. No attendance was taken. Just the loyal elderly. A few went down. BUT it was June on a So. Caribbean cruise leaving PR- so I only fault myself on that one! Karen
gkbiiii Posted June 20, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 20, 2012 I have been on the Victory as a fully comped guest of the casino player's club, however I found the ship to be inside and out the ugliest ship I have been on in ten voyages. I mean an horribly green under the sea theme and a pink fish concept in the main dining room. Pink and more pink, including the truly bizarre main dining room. I much better choice is the RCCL Adventure of the Seas, which is like the flag vessel of Puerto Rico.

CincyLucy Posted June 20, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 20, 2012 The pictures look great but my comment is about your son's shirt in the snoop dogg photo. My husband helped run the tech olympics in Cincinnati!

chismrules Posted June 21, 2012 #13 Share Posted June 21, 2012 Can you please tell me more about St. Lucia, Spenser's trip with the add on. How long were you at the beach, and you said add on volcano but you went to falls also. Did you pay for falls also and which falls. Thinking about doing this even though it is more expensive. How long were you at the beach, and you said add on volcano but you went to falls also. Did you pay for falls also and which falls. Thinking about doing this even though it is more expensive. We did 2 tours w/ Spencer Ambrose. Jalouise Beach Break ($85)and (I'll get this wrong) Souiffre Highlights. The beach break alone could be all day (9-2 actual beach time w/ lunch, snorkel extra $10, or bring your own). The additional highlights ($25) went to a waterfall (I don't recall it's name) and you had your choice b/t the volcano tour or the mud bath. Then we went to the beach by 11ish-2p. Our van was split so we got to hear about their experience as well. I believe it's $5 pp extra for the mudbath. We thought it was a cool excursion. On the way back you boat into coves and see the bat cave. If you go to the boards PORTS OF CALL section, Caribbean, St. Lucia and then search Spencer you will find more info. boingy300 Posted June 25, 2012 Author #16 Share Posted June 25, 2012 I know. I wanted to do Southern Caribbean, though. Nice to have the Southern Caribbean to ourselves! I could do a transatlantic on a mega ship like Allure/Oasis though! Karen
