princessdivaapril Posted July 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2012 Ok. We check into our hotel 2 blocks from BourbonnSt. Beautiful online and beautiful outside. The Cotton Exchange Hotel. Advertised as a lovely boutique hotel. More like Motel Hell. 2 chairs were on top of bed. Bellhop removed them I immmediately saw smeared Burgundy lipstick smeared on top sheet. Pulled back sheet to find stains, more lipstick and long brown hairs. Room smelled vaguely of urine. Went to call front desk and our phone doesntnwork! Headed to front desk and found housekeeping who recleaned room. Also our closet had no rod to hang clothes. Me being a go-with-the-flow kind of girl handled it all ok and we headed to Bourbon St for some live music and cajun food. Well, the sky fell out and it has poured off and on for 3 hours. Nothing gonna mess up my trip so I have the NOLA staple drink, a hurricane. Followed by a Huge Ase Beer. Yes, you read it correctly but don't blame me because that is what the place was called and it is printed on my cup. Back in room to rest for a bit and dry out from the rain. Then headed to Harrahs casino to "make a donation" and then back to Bourbon St for music, beads, and street vendor hotdogs.
Sargent_Schultz Posted July 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2012 Sorry to hear the hotel sucks. The reviews on it seem to match some of your experiences. Lucky Dogs are the prescription when you are simply minded and seriously hungry (SMASHed). They work wonders to sop up overindulgence.d There may still be a vendor in Harrah's. Hand Grenade from Tropical Isle is another drink that will cause amnesia. Looking forward to reports of the cruise. Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler! DaytonCruiser Posted July 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2012 Hope things get better, that hotel has gotten horrible reviews on TripAdvisor. I always check that out, rather than trusting a hotels pictures on their website http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60864-d653808-Reviews-Cotton_Exchange_Hotel-New_Orleans_Louisiana.html Have a great time at Harrahs and Elation!! But, you do have to be able to go with the flow. Sounds like you have the right attitude to have fun no matter where you are. Enjoy your cruise. That's a pretty miserable ranking. Trip Advisor is an excellent resource for information. There will always be those who will trash a particular hotel but the general rankings are pretty accurate. If there were 148 hotels in a city, I would look for the best value among the top 50.

Those huge ass beers are the cheapest on Bourbon St. and love to drink hurricane's from Pat 'o Brien's. The hand grenades at Tropical Isle are great too. As a local who has partied on Bourbon St. many nights over the years, I can relate to eating a Lucky Dog to satisfy those late night/early morning munchies.:D Glad you had a good time and hope you will return again in the future.(But choose a different hotel)

jgmpuma Posted July 14, 2012 #15 Share Posted July 14, 2012 As the Sgt. suggested, a Lucky Dog is considered a must for those doing any serious partying, and expecting to be at least semi-conscious the next morning. There is a LD stand in Harrah's, and lots more on Bourbon, where they do a huge business with the Hand Grenade and Huge Ass Beer customers.
