midwestchick Posted July 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2012 Hello. We're looking at sailing to the Italian and French riviera on either Sept. 1 or Sept. 12...will have to decide soon. I was looking at the shore excursions offered by the cruiseline and find some of them to be quite expensive. Since this is our first time sailing, how do people normally book their excursions....through the cruiseline or privately. It's an 11 day cruise and it seems if you do the excursions it can be a pretty hectic schedule. Any other information you can provide would be appreciated....I've only posted very little on CC and not quite sure how to navigate all the message boards. LOP Posted July 17, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2012 Anything in Italy, I would recommend you contact rome in limo. We used them on one cruise at 3 different ports for private tours for just DW and I and it was first class all the way. We were able to see so much more than the larger tour groups and walking was at a minimum since the cars could get so much closer to the sites. The driver/guides were very informative and we never worried about returning to the port on time. If you wanted to reduce the cost, you could go to your roll call and organize a small group to split the costs up and rome in limo provides mercedes vans as well. Have a wonderful time. laurieb Posted July 17, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2012 We're on the Sept 23rd sailing, same itinerary as the first. If you book online before the cruise, most of the excursions through the cruiseline are 50% off. We have always been DIY's but we have booked a couple of these, since this will be our first time cruising the Med. I found the prices on most ot the tours very reasonable compared to private tours and cars.

midwestchick Posted July 17, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted July 17, 2012 LOP...do you have a website for the limo service? This tour actually goes to Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, Taorminia, Sicily, Florence, Portofino, St. Tropez, France and Monte Carlo. We were actually looking at doing a tour of Sicily this fall but there was not enough time to prepare and some of the tours were a pretty good pace...I think we would like a slower pace....so hopefully, just Sicily in May. Thank you all for your input. We're still deciding on dates....I don't think either of us want to fly on 9/11. Another question...is it okay to fly to Rome the day before your ship departs....of course we would fly out on the 31st and embark on the 1st....do most of you add a night prior to your trip?
