Does anyone know why Carnival stop the Bermuda itinerary out of Charleston S.C.

They didn't give a reason but I have a theory....

Bermuda is notorious for searching ships and "shaking down" cruise passengers for possession of small amounts of MJ. Probably

causes a lot of headaches for the cruise line:

If you read this Bermuda Sun article and read between lines it sort of seems like Carnival snubbed Bermuda without notice or giving a reason:

Again... just my theory - I could be totally wrong.

I don't know if it is true, but....

I have read somewhere that the lines (not just CCL) want to be allowed to open their casinos in the evenings, to help recover some of the lost revenue from being in port for 2 to 3 nights. As I understand it the Bermudian government will not budge on this and some of the lines are pulling out or scaling back..

It's a long way, and Carnival cruisers are notorious for not liking a lot of sea days. EM

I dont think so. Have seen high prices on 8 day cruises with 4 sea days.

Believe Bermuda and Carnival could not come to an agreement.

Sounds like Carnival (and other lines) are MAYBE protecting their customers from the warrant-less searches. Additionally as someone else mentioned- when porting overnight the ships lose a LOT of revenue with closed shops and casinos. So why not cruise to other islands that will negotiate.

NCL has first dibs on Bermuda port days, then RCL and Celebrity since they cruise there continuously (in season). Carnival could not get the port days they wanted, which would have had people leaving on a weekend and returning same. Their port days would have to be when the Dockyard was available, which meant that their cruises would have to leave during the week.

Also, from NY it only takes 1 sea day to arrive in Bermuda, but because Bermuda renegged on allowing the casinos to be open after 10pm, the cruiselines now either take 2 days getting there or 2 days getting back. This is one of the reasons that HAL is no longer going to be sailing there.

Things may change in the future once Bermuda starts to realize the loss of revenue.

Searches have been taking place on ships sailing to Bermuda since we started sailing in 1992 and on any cruise line we've sailed. This is NOT the reason!

Your second statement makes sense.

My guess would definitely be the fact that Bermuda authorities do not allow ship casinos to open while in port overnight. Bahamas overnights were briefly stopped when they tried to raise the port fees too much. Its all about protecting the bottom line for CCL.

Has nothing to do with that, the fact is that every cruise line loses money when they are docked in Bermuda because gambling is not allowed.

Surprised they haven't go to sea at night like they do in Cabo.
