Addictedtocruising Posted September 7, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Hi, I am going on the Brilliance of the seas and was wondering in which lounges or other public areas of the ship you can smoke cigarettes besides cabin balconies? Also, are there any 24 hour food places open other than room service? Does anyone know if the new dining room menu has come to that ship yet? Do you have a favorite bar tender/s? I'm sure I will have lots of other questions, so please let me know everything you know and love about the Brilliance :D Thank you in advance :)
chickadee1 Posted September 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Hello - are you on the CC thread for this sailing? I can't remember if I have seen your name - there are so many! Anyway, I am sure people on that thread have sailed Brilliance before and might be able to help you! :)
Addictedtocruising Posted September 7, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Yes, I'm signed up for the 11/2 sailing! I'm trying to gather more info on the ship, I love to know all the details before I get there. :D
tahqa Posted September 7, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Hi, I am going on the Brilliance of the seas and was wondering in which lounges or other public areas of the ship you can smoke cigarettes besides cabin balconies? Let's see... all the way at the back end of the Colony Club, the sports bar, parts of the casino, and on one side of the open decks. I'm not a smoker so I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the smoking areas. Also, are there any 24 hour food places open other than room service? No, no 24 hours eating locations, but there should be something open at any given time. Does anyone know if the new dining room menu has come to that ship yet? Not yet and I don't know where they are in the process. Do you have a favorite bar tender/s? My favorite bars were the Schooner Bar and the Viking Crown but none of the bartenders there really stood out for me. I'm sure I will have lots of other questions, so please let me know everything you know and love about the Brilliance :D Thank you in advance :) Answers in red :)

Addictedtocruising Posted September 7, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted September 7, 2012 And yet another ? Is there WIFI in the cabins or will I have to take my laptop to the internet area?
Clarea Posted September 7, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 7, 2012 And yet another ? Is there WIFI in the cabins or will I have to take my laptop to the internet area? Brilliance will not have pervasive WiFi until it's revitalization dry dock scheduled for May 2013. Until then, you would have to go to one of about a half-dozen hotspots around the ship. minsterman Posted September 7, 2012 #10 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Annoyingly there seemed to be far too many places to smoke, which spoilt our enjoyment somewhat. You coudl smoke in Casino, Colony Club, Starquest, Sports Bar. On an evening, if you weren't going to the Theatre about the only half decent place to go was the Schooner Bar. We used to love going to Starquest to wind down on an evening but after the first night we went and it was very smokey (even in the non-smoking area - I dont think they understand smoke drifts) we didnt go again. New menu is from sometime in November according to one of the Chef's we spoke to.
Addictedtocruising Posted September 7, 2012 Author #11 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Wow thank you for all the answers! I think I read there is no diamond lounge? Where did they hold the Diamond event?
heatherb1958 Posted September 7, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 7, 2012 And yet another ? Is there WIFI in the cabins or will I have to take my laptop to the internet area? Wifi hotspots are the library, Solarium , Starquest ( I think ) and Cafe Lattetudes . Pick up a leaflet when you board which will clearly state the areas. Once she has been revitalised it will be in the cabins . Rusti in the Champagne bar is a hoot , as was Suzy but she went to another ship after her vacation, they are trying to get her back, she is a legend as is Rusti. Diamond event depends on numbers but usually in the Hollywood Odyssey on deck

We have sailed on Brilliance 3 times this year, first two cruises Hollywood Odyssey was D event , last cruise it was Concierge overflow with only 8 people in it at all times. Addictedtocruising Posted September 21, 2012 Author #16 Share Posted September 21, 2012 I think she has not been in the states since around 2008. Our last cruise on her was 2007. It is the wife's favorite ship. I guess I should have just asked you on our roll call :D Thanks for your reply Donna

The Brilliance left for Europe in April 2008 and today, she finally got back to the States. Cruised on her, 19 times!!! She needs to go to dry dock, real bad: start to show her age (10 years old, now) Have a great time! We will be cruising again with her, in Dec... Say hi to Rusti, from Mama!!!! Happy cruising dreams! Big Chippy Posted September 21, 2012 #18 Share Posted September 21, 2012 Agree with other posters, Rusti in the Champagne is the business . We really enjoyed the Schooner bar as well, bar staff pleasant but no one stood out above the others.
