You will use your ships card for purchases on the island (no cash accepted for drinks) except for local vendors which you will need cash.

I've read that the soda stickers/cards that people buy on the ship aren't good on the private island. I'm not sure if that is for all cruise lines or just particular ones. We never buy them since we prefer drinking iced tea or margueritas.

You can use your soda card on Coco Cay. From RCI website

ADULT FOUNTAIN SODA/JUICE PACKAGE

This package entitles guests 18 years of age and older to unlimited consumption of fountain sodas (no cans) and juices at all bars and lounges, Windjammer, Dining Room and Private Destinations (CocoCay and Labadee).

SeaPass for other drinks, and snorkel equipment. They don't have the ability to swipe your card on the island so they use a hand written receipt that you sign and they imput into the system later.

When visiting one of the cruise line's private islands, is the food included as if you're onboard? Can you use your seapass to purchase drinks?

On Princess Cays (Princess private island) the food is provided. I don't believe the soda card works there though. I'm not sure which beverages are provided.
