You don't need a mouse and you don't need to add text.  I don't have an ipad, but I assume you have four arrows (up, down, left, and right).  If not, this is just one more reason I don't have an ipad.

 

I use a desktop computer.  However, when posting photographs I use the following to add spaces between the photographs:

 

Use the down arrow to get the bottom of your post.  If necessary use the right arrow to move to the end of the bottom line in your post.  Then use the enter key to create blank lines.  I find that one blank line is enough ...

To continue where I left off when I was interrupted by real world events...

what I did in my previous was to type my comment, did the “click to choose files” thing, choose camera roll. Choose one image. It showed up in the Reply box. I lightly clicked on the image with my stylus. The cursor flashed on the far right just to the right of the image. I hit Return, typed a new comment, did the Click to choose routine...

I think when I made the post all I had pictures of were my nieces kids and didn't want to post them so just grabbed some pics out of a thread to use :=)
