Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted October 19, 2012 #26 Share Posted October 19, 2012 Did you pack it in your carry-on or your larger piece of luggage that has to be dropped off? Checked luggage, we're schlepping on enough stuff already without a fan in tow. Tom
LHARTWICK Posted October 19, 2012 #27 Share Posted October 19, 2012 I guess I have just been lucky. I've placed my fan in both my checked and carry-on and have never been questioned. Now watch me get questioned this time!!
Rheba Posted October 21, 2012 Author #28 Share Posted October 21, 2012 You have been lucky thus far, trust me. Out there are renegade security guys ready to confiscate most anything, and once it's been declared "not permitted", best of luck getting it back (before the cruise is over). If they take your fan, they would likely have a loaner for you - if they have not loaned them all out! Basically what I am saying is be mentally prepared for it to be taken from you, and be pleased when it's not. It was rather amusing (once my ANGER was sifted out of the equation) on our last Carnival sailing on the Sensation a couple of months ago... they took my fan after I went to the naughty room to open my suitcase. I even had them bring their "electrician" to come and have a look at it to determine if it was a safety hazard. Before I even pulled it out (for him to examine it, check the cord/plug, etc) he blurted out "NO, not permitted". Talk about a rubber stamp of the security guys determination -- though I really would expect nothing less... OK.. OK.. the AMUSING thing was that upon walking down Promenade deck near the casino I saw the band near the casino bar, and guess what type of fan they had there keeping them cool? If you guessed THE SAME KIND THAT I HAD you'd be correct! I brought that to the attention of Guest Services in my continuing attempt to have mine returned. The only result of that action was that the band had theirs removed by the next night... Gotta love that! Tom That's the fan I'm taking.... I love that fan! I've decided to put that one in my carry on and a battery operated in my checked bag. I'm praying at least one gets through!
Holders3 Posted October 22, 2012 #29 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Got on Magic yesterday and they didn't even open the bag so fan got on with me. Small plastic battery operated one.

LHARTWICK Posted October 23, 2012 #31 Share Posted October 23, 2012 I've actually witnessed that on several cruises as well - LOL!! And I thought I was crazy for bringing my small fan!
kriskraft Posted October 24, 2012 #32 Share Posted October 24, 2012 I have been on the Magic two times and each time have taken a fan with no problem. Just remember there is one outlet with two plugs in cabin.
