reunion_cruise2013 Posted October 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2012 I am interested in spending time at the beach and also do a bit of shopping, is this possible to do all by taxi and not thru an excursion? Help help would be great.
gtaylor Posted October 21, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2012 Sure it's possible, even easy. What are you looking for in a beach, and what are you likely to be shopping for. gary
reunion_cruise2013 Posted October 22, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I know we would like to take our kids to Orient beach in the morning and then maybe taxi over to some shopping for the afternoon. I am just not sure how far of a ride it would be from Orient beach to Marigot. I hear there are nice shops in Marigot. We are not shoppong for anything particular just want to see a bit of the island.
Putterdude Posted October 22, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2012 There lots of great shopping in Phillipsburg, boardwalk and beach all of which is accessible from the water taxi at the cruise terminal.
soleil125 Posted October 22, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Hi there! A Taxi ride over to Orient Beach will take about 25 minutes or so. I would say if you wanted to do this in the morning and then taxi back over to Philipsburg for shopping in the afternoon you will have plenty of time for both. There is a lot available at Orient Beach including plenty of places to eat, chairs to rent, etc. Part of the beach is clothing optional which I'm sure you already know! Another option which would be to take the Water Taxi over to Philipsburg and rent a couple chairs and umbrella at the beach right next to the pier, do some shopping on Front and Back Streets and then head over to your rented cahirs and umbrella at the beach. Either way, you will enjoy St. Maarten! Soleil
SeaBands Posted October 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2012 the prices are better there except if you want French products then it's Marigot.
#1TravelMom Posted October 22, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2012 We always rent a car from Coastal right at the pier. Very inexpensive. That allows you to do things at your own pace. Marigot has lots of shops. It's also nice to climb the step to Ft. St. Louis for amazing views. The fort is in Marigot.
