speter0425 Posted May 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2004 We plan a family cruise in December. My husband , myself and our two adult sons. I am looking for a Caribbean cruise that would either stay VERY late or overnight in at least one port. Does anyone know of anything?
kitty9 Posted May 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2004 I don't know of any cruise line, not even the luxury lines, that stay overnight in the Caribbean ports. There's just not enought to do in any of the Caribbean ports that warrant an overnight stay. Some ships might stay until midnight in Key West, but that's just about the only place the ship might stay a little longer. Darcie

Rare geoherb Posted May 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 10, 2004 When we sailed on the Sovereign of the Seas a dozen years ago, the ship got into San Juan around 10 p.m. and left around noon the next day. It was beautiful sailing into the port at night. The cruise line had night-time excursions to various shows in the big hotels. We did not do them. Rare geoherb Posted May 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 10, 2004 P.S. I haven't looked at itineraries closely to see if any ships still do this.
aqusis Posted May 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 10, 2004 There are some 3-4 nighters to the Bahamas that stay docked in Nassau until Mid-1:00 AM. I know we were there on the Sovereign of the Seas last fall and we docked at 6 AM. There was already a Carnival ship there and the Majesty of the Seas arrived shortly there after. None of the three started leaving port until about 12:30-1:00 AM. If you are flexible with your itinerary, look into Bermuda cruises. Depending on the cruiseline, they move between 2-3 ports all week so there are several nights that they are in port overnight. Also on Bermuda, it's not required that you be on the ship when it moves from dock to dock. You just have to be familiar with the schedule so you know which dock to return to. GAPaige Posted May 14, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 14, 2004 We are taking the Sovereign of the Seas in September and we aren't scheduled to leave Nassau until 3:00 am. Can't wait until Sovereign in September!

momofmeg Posted May 15, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 15, 2004 We were overnight in Freeport this past April. We got there around 10a.m. April 10 and left at noon April 11. We were told this was allowed becuase Freeport allowed them to open the casino and ship's shops. I also notice that splendor of the Seas when she moves to Tampa will stay in Cozumel to midnight. The only other exception to a ship staying all night in port was in Bermuda, but that is not the caribbean. karen_cpa Posted May 16, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 16, 2004 I do not think I have ever been on a cruise (other than Tahiti) that stayed in port overnight. momofmeg makes a good point - I don't think the cruise line would want to lose an entire night's casino take. I believe most of the caribbean does not allow shops and casinos to be open with the ship is in port.
