10X Posted May 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I have 2 pieces of luggage that are 63.5 linear inches. The airline limits are 62 linear inches. Has anyone ever had their luggage measured and been required to pay a surcharge? I know some people have been hit with over weight but I've never seen a post about over sized. Scarlett Fever Posted May 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2004 The extra 1.3 inches should be OK. I work for an airline and we're more concerned about the 50 lb weight limit.

smudge's mom Posted May 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Take the weight issue very seriously. When a suitcase is very large - it "screams" - "possibly overweight" and they will pay extra attention to the scale. The last time we packed, I was careful to carry the shoes and toiletries and anything else that weighs extra - in a third suitcase. On the way home, I carelessly packed some of these heavier pieces in the main suitcases and both suitcases were overweight - one by 3 and one by 8 lbs. Had a really nice person at check in and she let it go. If not, I would've been the person with all my possessions scattered on the floor of the terminal while I weight shifted. luv2travel2beaches Posted May 14, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 14, 2004 I just finished packing for our trip (leaving in the morning). I was really careful to make sure each bag was within the size and weight limits. Our only possible problem is my carryon (a tote bag) that is about 1.5 linear inches over the size and that is if it were packed completely full (it's not quite). I sure hope is passes ok or I will be buying a new tote bag in the airport! JanetMarie Posted May 14, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 14, 2004 When we left last month on our cruise, , my piece was over by a few pounds and the airline let me go with no charge, but rather, a stern look. Have you seen what some people pass off as "carry on ?" As long as it fits in the overhead bin or underneath the seat the airline won't say anything. I promise they don't have tape measures at the gate measuring to see if you are in compliance Have a great cruise ! golflady Posted May 18, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I just returned from my cruise on the Carnival Glory on Saturday, May 15. When I checked in at the airport; I was told that my luggage was 3 pounds overweight. It cost me $25.00. I have never been on a cruise that I didn't have a great time. since1982 Posted May 18, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Came back from a 16-day repo cruise on May 2nd with four pieces of luggage to check in at the airport. As soon as the porter picked them up he knew that they were well over 50 pounds. I implied to pass them and I will give him a tip. He labeled them as first class passenger (I guest that allows greater weight) and put on another "Heavy" label. I gave him a good tip and we were both happy.
