Carnival Fantasy & Charleston businesses

These were really entertaining to read. From restaurant owners to tourist attractions and everyone in between, you can see that we really want the new terminal here in Charleston. It's hard to see past the vocal wealthy folks that keep throwing money at a lawsuit but I had been curious what some of the businesses in the immediate area thought of Carnival being here. This just goes to show...cruising is important revenue for our fine city and we want the cruise ships here!

Your neighbor the the north in Wilmington, NC has been exploring how to lure cruise ships and doing estimates of how much revenue will be generated to offset the expected costs.

Currently the main power lines from the nuclear power plant across the river prevent any but the smallest cruise ships from entering the harbor area. The estimates to bury the power lines and create a passenger friendly port is in the 40 million to 50 million range.

In April the Regent Seven Seas Navigator was supposed to stop, but cancelled that morning. It would have only brought about 500 passengers to town.

Not sure if our infrastructure could handle 3000 people!
