lovestx Posted November 29, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2012 Wow! Never knew you could get on that quickly. We leave from Miami on Connie in three weeks. Planned to get to the port around 11 a.m. Should we get there earlier? In a CC cabin.
Phxazzcruisers Posted November 29, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 29, 2012 It all depends on what time the ship arrived at the port and what time you are scheduled to leave. 11:00 is usually a pretty good time. You will probably not be able to get to your room until closer to 1:00, but you can board, walk around the ship and have some lunch. Enjoy your cruise
Rare cruisestitch Posted November 29, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2012 Come too early and you can end up standing around or sitting in the terminal waiting. You won't know what time the previOus cruise arrived, whether all previous passengers disembarked in a timely manner, if any CDC inspection or special cleaning was needed. So I wouldn't go that early....and with staterooms not ready you have to drag your carry o with you while you wait, don't forget that
judatt Posted November 29, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 29, 2012 We sailed out of Bayonne, NJ on the Summit to Bermuda last summer. We stayed in a midtown Manhattan hotel and hired a car to pick us up at 10 AM. It was about a 30 minute ride on Sunday morning and upon arrival at the dock we didn't really slow down. Unloaded bags, car moved on up a little way and dropped us off, we walked up to CC check in and on to have picture taken, was told to sit and wait for bus to take us to gangway but before we could sit they called us and we got on the bus for a very short ride to the gangway and I think we were either the second or third ones on the ship. It was smooth and quick and we were on by 11. Can't remember exactly when we got to our cabin but it was about 1 right after lunch. That's about as good as you could get and can't really expect everything to go that quickly on most embarkations.
KirkNC Posted November 29, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 29, 2012 We usually arrive around 11:30.
garycarla Posted November 29, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 29, 2012 Embarking is not the same as getting to your cabin. They are not available until later.

And often your room steward will let you leave your carry on in the cabin even though it isn't ready for you... :)
bigmohes Posted November 30, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 30, 2012 Last Jan we had drinks in hand on board by 10:30.
Rare cruisestitch Posted November 30, 2012 #12 Share Posted November 30, 2012 Recently reports are that fire doors are closed prior to the official opening of the rooms so you can no longer drop your carry On luggage in the room when you board. Be prepared to have to schlepp your stuff to the buffet if you board early.
