Can someone tell me how long we should plan for the drive up. We are thinking we should allow 2 1/2 hours. Any inputv from someone who has made the drive? I've driven it several times but never kept track of the time because we made severl stops along the way. According to a guidebook it would take about 1.5 hours without any stops. PCWalton1 Posted January 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2013 If you do not have traffic issue, an 1 to 1 1/2 hours. That is also if you do not want to make stops.
Susan-M Posted January 19, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Google maps show 1.5 hours, and I think that's close to what it took us. Since you won't be making stops on the way up for sunrise ... I would allow 1.5 hours, plus add some time on to make sure you get a parking spot at the summit. Two hours should be sufficient.
Astro Flyer Posted January 19, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Guidebooks recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before sunrise. I've gone twice & to get the full effect arrive in total darkness. Seeing the 1st golden rays of sun on the horizon is as close as we'll get to a sunrise from space.
