Rare Germancruiser Posted January 22, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2013 Since I jumped Celebrity ships and got many of my questions already answered, it turns out that the Niew Amsterdam will be " my nest ship" ! Since the Explorations Cafe seems a nice place to sit and enjoy tea or coffee here a few questions concerning this location: 1. What tea do they serve? 2. Is it selfservice or waited service? Is there tea available in any other lounges? and do they have china or plastic trays or plates in the Lido - Cafe! Many questions I know! Thanks in advance! sail7seas Posted January 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2013 Lido has 'real' plates. No plastic or paper plates there. Actually, other than at HMC, I don't recall seeing HAL use any paper plates on the ships. I'm sure they would in the event of water shut off for repair but not for regular service. Explorations Cafe has a steward who prepares the coffees/teas and guests place orders with him, pay and collect their beverage from him at the service counter/pastry case. Krazy Kruizers Posted January 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2013 There are no trays in the Lido. You can get tea also in the Lido 24/7 and via room service. There is no tea in the bars/lounges. But you can certainly bring your tea from the Lido or the Explorations Cafe to a bar/lounge. And of course there is tea available in the dining room and speciality restaurants for all meals. Rare Germancruiser Posted January 23, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted January 23, 2013 Thank you very much, that helps a lot, what a nice selection! I take it they serve tea and coffee in proper china- at least for those who stay in Explorations?! Thx again. Michael
sail7seas Posted January 23, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 23, 2013 No, they do not serve proper china. The beverages are meant to be taken away. The Explorations is a service bar though there is seating nearby at computers, easy chairs for reading and game playing but it is not a 'sit' down' coffee shop. QueenGlassHalfFull Posted January 23, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 23, 2013 Holland America also serves an afternoon tea in the Main Dining Room. There is a Dutch high tea, an Indonesian tea, a "cupcake" tea and various other varieties of tea service. The "regular" afternoon tea in the Main Dining Room has small sandwiches, scones, biscuits and other sweets. If you are in the Penthouse or a Deluxe Suite, you can have full service afternoon tea delivered to your suite.
Gypsy2 Posted January 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 23, 2013 Is there a coffee/tea drink package something similar to the soda package?
the2ofus Posted January 23, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 23, 2013 I think I recall seeing a tea chest with many types of tea in tea bags brought to the table in the dining room along with individual pots of hot water when table companions have ordered tea at dinner. In the Lido there is a selection of tea bags at the drinks station. There is just one beverage card. Whether it is a good buy depends on what you choose to drink and how much you want to spend on drinks.

I'm guessing you will have a choice if you want paper.
