Cruise points....what are they????

Question from a newbie:

I just got an email from Royal Caribbean telling me I have 55 days to go til my cruise. It also said I have 8 cruise points. What exactly are cruise points? How did I get 8 of them? How do I collect more? I'm guessing 8 is about enough to buy me a toothpick, but once I have more, what do I do with them? How do you redeem them and do they expire?

Sorry for so many questions all at once!😳

You must have been on a cruise before Jan 2011 when they converted credits to points. You got 8 points from your one old credit.

The number of points you have sets your level in Royal's loyalty program called Crown & Anchor. You are at the Gold level. Here's an overview of the levels and associated perks:

Did you take an 8 night cruise or a 4 night cruise in a Jr Suite or higher? Those are the pts you would accrue in the Crown & Anchor program. You can get full details at the Royal Caribbean web site and click on Crown and Anchor.

Ok then - you only get 1 point and you have to forfeit the other 7 to me! I don't understand it, but, I don't care - I have 111 points, does that mean I have sailed for 111 nights? Sounds about right, I certainly never sailed in anything higher than an OV stateroom!
