careycouponer Posted February 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2013 I'm eager to get back to "normal" threads on CC. So here's my question. I read that people decorate their doors and I thought that would be cute to do for my first group cruise (yes, almost a year away still). Do you think this would work? Thanks! rjackieb Posted February 18, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2013 It could, but be sure to bring something you can hang it with that won't mar the door. I wouldn't use the adhesive on the back of them. Only thing is some fun neighbors might also leave you greetings.
grandmacani Posted February 18, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2013 We just got back from our family reunion cruise on the Paradise last week. I printed 8x10 picture posters for the doors, used magnets for the back. We also had the dry erase boards. We cruised with 31people, 11 cabins. They came in handy. People may also leave messages, will the person who won $300 at black jack please stand up. No one in our group. They were so happy about winning they shared the news with us. The board came in handy as we had kids who told us where they were going to be.
Colorado Kat Posted February 18, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2013 The boards might be difficult to hang. I know I have seen rolls of paper, with adhesive on the back, and a white-board-like surface on the front. Look at office supply stores.
pbsteve Posted February 18, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2013 Anything with a slick finish will work as a whiteboard. I used a stopsign in college, until the police confiscated it. I've also used the blank CD's that are on top of a canister (the clear ones) Clear book covers will also work, and not leave residue, as they're meant to stick to books and be peeled off later. TakeMeAway1001 Posted February 18, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2013 On our last cruise someone had a white board type thing on their door and let me just say that the messages that were left on that were anything but G-rated  Clearly those passing by had a good time updating it, while some of the things were funny some were downright nasty. Rok4u2 Posted February 18, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2013 on the BREEZE a cabin next to mine on Deck 8 had a white board on the door to tell their frinds where they were.
shopril Posted February 18, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 18, 2013 My door decorations stated what state I was from. I had a pad of post-its and ink pen asking people to leave a message. I had lot of fun responses. I still have them in the scrapbook of that cruise.
grandmacani Posted February 18, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 18, 2013 We also carried our white board markers with us to avoid uncalled for remarks. We got the boards at the dollar store. They attached to the doors with magnets.
careycouponer Posted February 18, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted February 18, 2013 Thanks for all the responses! I'll look for a version that's magnetic. How much are the ones at the dollar store? The cheapest I can find on Amazon are these for $7.49.
Kudos2Fly Posted February 18, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 18, 2013 Just bought one for our freg. Yes they are cheap at the dollar store. It didn't break the bank. Don't remember the cost but I do think it was under $7. I have seen people use them. Many people also decorate their doors, letting people know why they are on the cruise.... cccer Posted February 18, 2013 #12 Share Posted February 18, 2013 These dry erase boards are sold at most stores. Target and Walmart sell them for about $5. Most come with magnets and tape. I don't think they would like tape used on the walls. A lot of surfaces can be used as a dry erase board is you use a dry erase marker, but eventually it will get pretty messy. meddlingkiddd Posted February 18, 2013 #13 Share Posted February 18, 2013 I was thinking of putting a dry erase board on our door on our up coming cruise too. I bought some magnetic ones last fall for a favor for my daughter's birthday party and they were $1 each at the dollar store.
TakeMeAway1001 Posted February 18, 2013 #14 Share Posted February 18, 2013 Another option is Wall-pops, they're sold at Bed Bath and Beyond and Target etc. They are like a dry-erase sticker, very popular in dorms where you are not supposed to mark up the walls. They can be peeled off and re-used and leave no residue, I have seen them on clearance at both stores before and DD has several in her dorm. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=124884&RN=2197&BTSMode=true&
PurpleDog Posted February 18, 2013 #15 Share Posted February 18, 2013 On Elation last year, I took a bunch of my magnetic business cards and put them on my door. It made my room easy to find. We ended up using the magnets to hold notes to and from the other folks were were traveling with.
RayJacki Posted February 18, 2013 #16 Share Posted February 18, 2013 (edited) On our last 2 Carnival cruises (on Conquest and Splendor) we took magnetic white boards, but the door to the room was NOT magnetic so the board wasn't usable there. The walls BESIDE the doors in the halls were magnetic. (We did use the white board inside our cabin since the cabin walls are magnetic) Edited February 18, 2013 by RayJacki
musicgal Posted February 18, 2013 #17 Share Posted February 18, 2013 Bought a small whiteboard at a drug store dollar bin. It had both a magnet and an adhesive strip on the back- I used the strip on our door and the residue came off easily with a finger rub. We changed our message on the board often. Cruisemaster99 Posted February 18, 2013 #18 Share Posted February 18, 2013 I bet some drunk would steal it and put it on their door. Like I see them do the breakfast tags.
Darkwing28 Posted February 27, 2015 #19 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Hi, I will be on the Oasis for the first time in May. I was wondering about the doors - so they are magnetic? What about interior walls? Thanks, Linda Oakville, Ont. CA

landlady1952 Posted February 27, 2015 #22 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Did this once. Never again. Let's just say there were some drawings that were a little obscene found on our door!!!
Jenny in TX Posted February 27, 2015 #23 Share Posted February 27, 2015 We always decorate our doors but one year we had a small dry erase board on the one door because we had 4 rooms and it made it easy for all of us to leave notes where we were. It worked great the first day or 2 and then someone started leaving obscene notes and very graphic pictures on it. At first it was funny, but they did it several times a day and were erasing the notes we were leaving for each other so we finally took it down. It got super annoying after the first couple of times. AnnaNimitee Posted February 27, 2015 #24 Share Posted February 27, 2015 We used these on our last cruise http://www.wallies.com/at-the-beach-dry-erase-products-7739.php?page_id=19 Worked great!
