kylesplash Posted August 2, 2016 #1901 Share Posted August 2, 2016 And you can now prepurchase CHEERS! using Carnival Gift Cards! Us gift card users used to have to pay the extra $5/day on board! How do you pay with gift cards? I called the phone number and they told me I had to purchase it on the ship, but if I mentioned I planned on buying it before the cruise, I would probably get the cheaper rate :/

Unless they have changed in the past couple of weeks this is inaccurate. Try calling and doing it. Not just calling and asking if it can be done. Earlier today there had been a thread stating they now accept gift cards for Cheers (with the screen shot from Carnivals site). I went to see for myself and at the time it did indeed state you needed to call the # to use the gift card for purchase. It is now no longer there, so clearly an error on their web-site unfortunately :(

paper1122 Posted August 3, 2016 #1911 Share Posted August 3, 2016 I just prepaid for cheers for our upcoming cruise. I've never spent that much on board for drinks, but this is DW and I'd first cruise in 4 years and our first vacation alone since having kids. What sold us is that most of the NA drinks are included so between coffee's, water, shakes, and cocktails I am sure we'll get our money's worth. AmberMarie Posted August 4, 2016 #1914 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Will they give you cans at the bar unopened? I was wondering about getting a RockStar the night before, putting it in my fridge, and drinking it in the morning. Same with bottles of water and juices. Supposedly the rules state all bottles and cans must be opened by bar staff, although I wouldn't doubt there are plenty of stories of those who tip well getting special consideration from the bartender. I have thought about getting a non-insulated water bottle and the night before getting one, filling the bottle, wait five minutes, get another, repeat until bottle is full, put bottle in fridge. I doubt it would go too flat if the cap is sealed well. Of course the refrigerators, if you can call them that, don't keep things too cold either, so I may prefer to make sure I have the steward leave a bucket of ice each night and keep the bottle in there. Great idea. I am sailing out of Galveston, so our first night we will have to pay for drinks. I was thinking about getting the beer package with the little cooler and using the cooler to do just what you described. I'm assuming the room attendant will keep ice in it if we ask him/her to with a tip, of course. ETA: Welp, just went to purchase the beer package like a genius and DUH. If the cheers package doesn't start because of Texas law, then I probably can't get beer the first day either. Bummer! :P ETA: And you can't buy the cooler and coozie set by itself. Bummer! I kinda wanted a little Carnival set of that, but I guess I can bring my own. Edited August 4, 2016 by AmberMarie

I was wondering about getting a RockStar the night before, putting it in my fridge, and drinking it in the morning.Same with bottles of water and juices. I haven't sailed since they added the RockStars and have no idea the policy on opening those. However, every time we've gotten Cheers!, when we had a few "regular" bartenders we would go to and throw a decent tip to, they would not open the extra beer I'd grab for my husband and we could keep some in the room (there were lots of times he'd be closer to 15 than me, so it made sense for me to grab the extra beer). Some people will say this is an abuse of Cheers! but we spend well, tip well, don't get ****-faced drunk (my husband might have 17 on a sea day, with a couple of mine, if we start drinking at 10am, because he's 6'5'' and metabolises alcohol like a dude his size), and never go over 30 total. Based on my experiences, policy or not, I have no doubt that if thrown a decent tip and a kind word, a Carnival employee would give me an unopened Rockstar. Let's go back to the beer thing. I thought I had to only get one drink at a time every five minutes regardless of the type of drink. Does that go back to the kind word and good tip? I was just wondering because what if I go to the bar to get us both another round or vice versa? Or if he goes in the morning to get us both RockStars... I was afraid we would always have to both be there. I wonder if he could take both our cards to the bar? Hmm Sent from my iPhone using Forums I've never tried to get 2 drinks at once with 1 Cheers! card. I have gotten 2 drinks with my card and my husband's when he was saving a spot (or vice versa, him for me). To me, I'd think getting 2 at once couldn't be done because they have to ring it up with the card (and because it kinda smacks of sharing). Not opening the top of a can as a courtesy is not really the same thing. Edit: Agh, I misread. I see you meant with both cards. That works sometimes. It's a crap shoot to take both cards and get 2 drinks. Well, maybe not a crap shoot -- I'd say it works 75-80% of the time. If the bartender knew us, they'd usually let us and ring both cards without us both being present. But some wouldn't and it seemed to depend on time of day. We got our unopened beers at night, not long before the Lido bar was gonna close. Probably depends when managers are nearby too! The forums don't allow the thread to be edited after a certain period of time... which is clearly shorter than 40 months. Start a "The New Definitive Cheers" thread and post it here. Ask the administration to lock this thread after you post. That way people will not be able to post in this one and the last post will link to the new one. erinmarie424 Posted August 5, 2016 #1924 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Must depend on the bartender. I've seen people get turned away trying to do that...a lot I guess we got lucky! We didn't try it more than once or twice a night, usually on our way in to the comedy club (one would go get seats, the other would get cocktails at the Alchemy Bar,) a couple times for morning coffee, and occasionally at the Casino Bar. It might have helped that we did go to these places together most of the time, chatted with the bartenders as their time allowed, and tipped for each drink. SMSACE6 Posted August 9, 2016 #1925 Share Posted August 9, 2016 I have a question about cheers. I did do a search, but could not find the answer. I know that the drinks are limited to 15 per 24 hr period. So, on departure day, if I board the ship at 1pm, and I hit 15 drinks by 1pm the next day (24 hrs). Am I then cut off for the rest of that first sea day?, or do they just start counting the drinks from 1pm that day to the next. I just wondering if I should limit my drinks on boarding day, so not to get cut off early on the first sea day. Hope this makes sense:o thanks
