How much can we really do (& how)?

We are visiting GC on a cruise port day (8-4)- 2 adults and a 9 y.o. Based on the fab reviews we'd like to visit Stingray City (just to swim around, don't need snorkel or scuba) but we'd also like to get around the island and see the place since this is our first visit. Is it feasible to combine SC & some land/island/beach sites & activities? If we were going to do that would we have to rent a vehicle & do that on our own - & is that a reasonable idea - or are there tours like this that anyone can suggest? Or could we do SC & then get around (to where for best bang?) via bus?

Also know our 9 y.o would probably love the dolphin excursions, but not sure they're worth the money or exclusion of all other sightseeing.

THANKS for any input!

Sting Ray City is a must see excursion. Ship or private Excursion, I would go with the ship. I cant remember how long we were there. If time permits they have little buses that run down seven mile beach every half hour.

You need an excursion to get to Stingray City. Your kid will love it and likely you will too. The ship ones are overpriced and too crowded in my opinion. I would book with a private operator, you can search on this board there are many that do the trip. We chose one that did it on a sailing cameraman and it was wonderful. Also, if you check there are many that will drop you off at the beach on the way back. That way you only need to spring for a taxi (or take bus) back to the port.

This is a 'must do a least once' excursion.
