jenr Posted April 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2004 We are planning on spending our day in St. Thomas really in St. John at Trunk Bay. Our goal is to just get off the ship and head straight there on our own...not on a tour. Can anyone tell me if it is better to take cab to Red Hook and then the ferry, or take the ferry from Charolete Amalie (sp?). Also what is the cab fare to Red Hook and the ferry fare from either location. Finally if our ship leaves St. Thomas at 5pm what time ferry do we need to be on to get back on board? Thanks so much for any advice! Jenny Carnival Destiny 9/26/04 Explorer of the Seas 2002 Carnival Paradise 2000 Canival Triumph 1999
1cruise2U Posted April 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Hey, I went to the US Virgin Islands website, it said the ferries run every 1 hour, and the trip takes 45 min from Charolet Amalie, so you don't miss the boat you would need to be heading back by 3pm, if you get back early you could see St. Thomas
wdblake Posted April 23, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2004 Here's what we did... Taxi to red hook ferry $8 per person Red hook Fery $3 per person Taxi to Trunk Bay $4 per person Park entrance fee $4 per person We went with red hook ferry since it runs more often than the CA ferry. The first CA ferry doesn't leave until 9am. The price works out the same since taxi fare to the CA ferry is $4 and the ferry costs $7. So either way you pay the same. You need to be on the 3pm ferry heading back to avoid any traffic problems. The island does experience it's own rush hour. There are constantly running taxis to and from Trunk Bay. You will love Trunk Bay it's the most beautiful beach my wife and I have seen in our travels.

WendyG Posted April 24, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2004 I see the ferry from CA is 45 minutes and the ferry from Red Hook is 15-20. How long is the cab ride to Red Hook, and is it always easy to get a ride back? tonyrobin Posted April 27, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Are we suppose to tip the taxi and ferry drivers? Thanks until the Legend and the Southern Caribbean

The Islander Posted May 12, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 12, 2004 No you don't tip the ferry people. You just buy a ticket and thats it. Taxis - some people tip when there is a tour involved, others do not. --Islander For more information on the Virgin Islands visit http://www.VInow.com the best guide to St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John and Water Island.
