CuseJeff44 Posted March 21, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2013 Hey all....4 time RCCL cruiser, will be cruising NCL for the first time in November. Couple of questions hoping some of you vets can help with 1- We have 2 kids so we tried to get the biggest room we could afford, a mini suite with balcony. Can anyone give me some idea of how does this room compares to a typical balcony room on a RCCL ship? Looks like its about 100 sf bigger, but can't really wrap my head around how that will feel. 2- I know its just one long room, but it looks from like there is a curtain that can be drawn to divide the halves? Kids may want to sleep early but would be nice to read, watch TV quietly, whatever in the other half of the room if we can get at least some what of a divide.... 3- Anything else that a mini-suite will offer that I am not aware of? Seems like the big bonus is the larger bathroom...
Automation Posted March 21, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2013 The room is a little larger, with a lot of storage. The bathroom has a tub. The tub has high sides. A little difficult to step into if you have any mobility issues. The curtain is between the bed and the sleeper sofa. I believe the tv is on the sofa side of the curtain. You do not get any of the suite perks with a mini. I do enjoy the extra space, it is not huge, but enough. Hope this helps.:)
Rare kjquilts Posted March 21, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2013 Not sure which ship you will be on so here is a video pulled from youtube for a mini suite from the Norwegian Pearl. Norwegian includes the balcony square footage along with the stateroom square footage. We've learned that some balconies are larger than the average used when calculating room category square footage. If you go to youtube and put in your ship name and stateroom number you'll be able to see a number of videos on your ship. You might get lucky and have your actual room featured there. sdmike Posted March 21, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 21, 2013 Here are my pictures of our Alaska trip on the Jewel, sister ship of the Pearl. There's a section on "misc ship shots" that will show you the mini-suite http://public.fotki.com/ritchiefamily/san_diego_family/2012-pictures/alaska-cruise-2012/

I am on the Pearl. It lists as 285 square feet. The RCCL balcony rooms (was thinking in relation to the Explorer as a reference) was about 180 give or take.
