Allure Wedding May 12 2013

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I decided to start my review now. There is not a lot of information out there for cruise weddings and especially for RCCL weddings. I thought by posting my experiences it could help people in the process and maybe others can chime in and help. It is long so I will post a little at a time.

Cruise review

My wedding on board the Allure May 12, 2013

This review is from the stand point of a bride AKA me. Once I get thru the planning phase and the actual wedding, it will be a general Allure review. But for anyone looking to have a celebration on Allure I hope this will help. I found it very hard to find the answers I was looking for as a bride.

I have sailed RCCL a few times and my fiance has never cruised before. But he loves the water and was all for a cruise. YEA, my dream come true. My favorite person in the world and my favorite way to travel.

My journey begins on July 24, 2012 when my boyfriend proposed to me. We already had a cruise planned in Sept for vacation. We decided this would make the perfect location for our wedding. In order to allow family members to cruise with us, we moved our cruise to the summer so kids would not have to miss school.

The first thing I did was call Royal to schedule our wedding. I was told someone would have to call me back and it could take a few weeks. A few days passed and I was very nervous. What if I did not get my date? How many people are booking that they are this busy they can not call back? I REALLY want this ship and this day….And I like to book my cruise a year in advance so I get the room I want. I am very particular about my room!!! I called them back. I was very nice and said that I really needed to book our wedding because we had people who wanted to book their cruises. They actually put me thru to someone. The problem was I could barley understand their accent. But I got thru the conversation and they emailed me everything so I could reread. Except now I had more questions….Well, that night I received a call. This person did not known I had already spoken to someone. So my guess is, if I had not called, I would have had a call that night any ways. I got my questions answered. We signed and faxed the contract and the next day received an email confirmation.

We decided to only invite 25 people. We wanted to keep it small and with 26 people you have to pay for an extra coordinator. We had 25 exactly, His parents, my parents, his grandparents, then our siblings and their kids. Immediate family only and an easy cut off to explain to people why we cannot invite more.

I became addicted to the boards as I always do a year before my cruises. I have been on celebrity, carnival, princess and royal. I read some negative reviews about RCCL weddings. However part of the appeal to me is being married on the water, leave straight for our honeymoon(via my favorite way to travel), no stress(or as little as possible), I do not have to plan a million things, or decide on every little item, I do not want a 4 hour reception, or a huge wedding party, I do not want to bring on board an aisle runner, or cake topper or any of the extras, I am not a flower girl so what every they provide I will be fine with. The only thing I do not like is that my Fiancé will see me before the wedding. Hopefully not in dress but hair and make up, but I will trade that one item for all the plusses.

With that being said, I did have questions that needed to be answered and I had no way to get in touch with someone who could. When I called the main number they were only an answering service and did not know the answers. When I sent an email no one ever answered back…So I was a little worried when I really did need to talk with someone…

The week of Thanksgiving we find out his sister is pregnant and due 3 days before our wedding date. AHHHHH, we need to change our date. How can we get married and not have his sister there. Plus his parents would be torn between our wedding and the birth of their grandkid. That is not right.

I quickly called and they told me that my appointed person would call me back. I asked if I could speak with someone else. Since I could not understand their accent and this is too important to not understand details you are being told. I feel bad as I do not want this person to feel bad. However I have to CMA, I am the one signing a contract. A few hours later someone calls me back and we get the date moved. We secure May 12, 2013.

However this means no one can sail with us because of school for the kids. There is always a plus side, we get a real honeymoon :) And it is costing us over $1000 less. For the summer we were taking our baby that would have just turned one and they charge full third person rate. REALLY for a one year old. But with our family there to help us take care of her we did not want to be without her. Now that no one was coming, we had to second think that. We had my sister in law and his parents ask to take her for the week. Since his parents live in FL and my sister in law in NY, his parents won. We also live in FL so it is easier. I have to say I have reconsidered bringing her with us every single day. A week with out my 10 month old. I must be a horrible mom. :(

LOL LOVE the early review!!!

Question: Did RCCL send you a ceremony outline on what you would like to add or not add or the flow of the ceremony? I was just going to ask them but thought i would ask you first

Second!

I want to say for all the newbies to RCCL weddings like me! they have been GREAT!! i am not just saying this and i do not work for them! lol I called to book my wedding had the hold put on paid after 5 days and boom bam. I got the director direct line to call her anytime (which i have) i have noooo issues with them. So i am thinking that since they have changed that it has been a change for the better!

Hi

I am happy hear good reviews. I am planning my vow renewal for next March on the liberty of the seas.Every time I called I got someone on the phone. the process took 2 days and contract signed and accepted now just waiting.

i am hoping to add a few extras (flowers and photo packages) but they told me I would need to wait to 30-45 days before sailing.

What flower options are available as you get closer? Do they send pictures of the bouquets available for upgrade?

Thanks Gisela

Hi,

We have recently organised our wedding on the Allure aswell :).. we are getting married at sea so I don't know the exact date of our wedding until we get on the ship as the Captain will advise when he has free time on his schedule...we are on the 27th April 2014 cruise...

I have had similar experiences with the RCCL team... you can only hold your wedding booking for three days without a cruise booking.

We are doing a week on the allure then a TA back to the UK straight after we come off the allure...

We had to wait on the TA dates coming out so we couldn't book the allure first...

After booking our cruises I thought it would be really quick booking the wedding however it took over a week for the team to get in touch..that's after me complaining to my agent and it ended up a member of the UK team calling me...

I found it so hard for the Miami team to get in contact however that all changed after I received the wedding contract and faxed it back to them.. now I get responses like lightening from the Miami team..

it kinda felt like they weren't interested in your query but once you pay the $$ for your wedding package they sat up and took notice... that's just my own personal views..

But everything is all good with the team now...

So wedding is now paid for, think ive just about found THE dress..hopefully have my mind made up by the weekend...

Exciting Times!!!

xx

I am still waiting for them to call so the only options for flowers that I am aware of are the ones posted on the sheet. That I see did not post in last email....let me cut and paste it now.

Maria Was the lady who called me back and rebooked my wedding cruise. She also gave me her direct line so any questions in the future I could get a hold of her. I did need to call a couple of times and she always called me back.

One day I was looking at my bank statement on line and noticed that my wedding had been refunded. PANIC ATTACK! Within a few hours Maria was calling me back and we figured out what happened. With having to change the dates, my TA needed to cancel our reservation and rebook, in order to get us the most for the promotion going on at the time. I did call Maria with our new booking number but somewhere between her reentering the number and the billing department doing their thing, they thought I had no reservation. It was all good. She got it fixed immediately and later that night a supervisor called me back to make sure everything was ok. I was feeling very confident with my descion to book my wedding on Allure.

I then became addicted to the boards and the honeymoon and wedding session. Which is why I am going into such detail. It is scary what you read. But everyone has their own experience and I hope sharing my experience will help someone else. There were also not a lot of reviews. And the ones that were there were about two sentences long.

With 70 days left til my wedding I had a few questions. Sunday evening I emailed the person I have been speaking with at RCCL and she answered them Monday morning. She also attached a form for me to fill out to pick all my specifics. I was also told they are working on April wedding right now and when I am assigned to someone they will be calling me. I had asked how many weddings are taking place that day. She did not answer but did say no more than 3 would be scheduled on the same day.

I was sent one sheet to fill out for all non sailing guest asking for first and last name, date of birth, citizenship, form of ID and the number. Minors are able to board with a birth certificate.

The second sheet asked for all the details of the wedding. Gave a list of songs to choose from or asked if we wanted to bring our own CD, we had to pick everything for the reception, which one we wanted, cake, ice carving, video, music, flowers, etc… we also checked off that we would be doing a sand ceremony , who was in the wedding party, what order they would be walking down the isle, if we were doing traditional or our own vows.

Thank you so much for all this information.

This is really helpful. Now I have an idea of what the options are. and I can sort of plan in advance.

Not many options in the flower department. I think I am going to look into silks.

Has anyone received a custom flower quote? are they ridiculously over priced?

I feel that after I passed the 60 day mark when you could not longer cancel, Maria stopped communicating with me....

44 days until my wedding , according to my contract RCCL needs ALL information by the 45 day mark, and I have spoken to no one. This week I emailed and called the person in the wedding department that I had been speaking with and have not heard back from her. I am not stressing because I know from other post that they are SLOW to get back and that its real close to deadline when they finalize plans. I decided to call the main number any ways. After all I am excited to have all my plans set. I find out Maria is out this week for a family emergency. I feel bad that I was upset that she was not returning calls and hope she is ok. They also inform me that next week they will be starting to call and finalize weddings for the beginning of May. YEA, I hope. Does this include me, May 12, am I the beginning or the middle? I will find out next week.

In the mean time I decide to check the boards again. It is before 9pm and I am going to do a quick check and go to bed. How does an hour go by so fast? I was not reading for that long…Ok it was Sherri’s (Middle aged drama queen) review so maybe I was hung up on every word she was writing. But I do this all the time. If you want to pass time quickly just read the boards.

Now I am down to 33 days. Last week still had not heard from RCCL. SO I called again, today is friday. The person I spoke to was very nice. She also told me that when brides call to book she tells them that if they are looking for personal attention like an on land wedding this is not for them. That I could have told her already. She did understand that I just want some communication.

Well, Monday I finally get an email from Maria who I have been dealing with from the beginning. She tells me she has been assigned my wedding. OK, you are now being assigned my wedding yet we have been speaking for a while. She sends me again the spreadsheet to fill out with all the guest information and the answer sheet to everything that I want for my wedding and reception. Previously she told me to hold on to it, this time she asked me to send it back. I also found out there are three weddings the day of my wedding. I assume that is mine plus two others. I have not heard anything new yet….

I emailed Maria last night and at 4pm today still have not heard back. I called her and went straight to her voice mail. The confidence I was once feeling is not there right now. I just want some answers and to feel confident that my wedding is on track.

The dress

I decided to shop for my wedding dress the first week of January for sales. I went to Davids bridal and picked 5 dresses non of which I liked. I brought a friend of mine who is GREAT at shopping and she picked out a dress that i would never have tried on. (Actually I brought my soon to be mother in law too and they both picked the same dress with out seeing what the other picked) Anyways I am glad I tried it on it was the one. Davids bridal wanted more for alterations than the cost of the dress so I am going with a private person. I am sorry I do not know how much she is charging for alterations as it is a wedding gift from a friend. Next week will be my final dressing fitting. I do wish it was closer to the actual date as I would like to loose 5 more pounds but she does the alterations from her home and has another job. So I understand she wants to have time.

Hair and make up

I called one women and she was actually a little rude. I am a licensed massage therapist and offered her 3 massages. She belittled me and said good luck with having someone show up and be professional. She wanted $175 for the day of and insisted on a trial for (I forget I think $75)

Luckily I remembered a girl I used to work with who was going to school for cosmetology. She was SOOO excited I called. She came over and did a practice make up on me while we caught up. I am really excited. She is the nicest person in the world and really good at what she does. She does have a full time office job. So I will post pictures of what she did on me and ask her what her prices would be for cruise critic brides.

OOT

All my siblings are coming from out of town. And one soon to be SIL. I brought the bags at old navy for $1 and they say love on them. I went to target during valentines day and shopped the dollar section. I got cute bubble bath,

little boxes that say love on them to put items in.

(I will have to relook at bags to see everything)

Also on sale

little vases that I planned to put candy in

frames

travel sun screen

aloe

crystal light single serve packs

water bottles(from old time pottery) with initials on them

from vista print I ordered stickers with our name and wedding date on them

From oriental trading I ordered stickers for candy and lollipops that have sailboats and anchors and such

from beaucop I ordered personalized tea bags and chap stick

I have to do final count for bags but for 5 bags I am around the $150-$200 mark total

More to come I have a seminar all weekend and have to go get ready.

Hi everyone, my wedding is aboard the Allure June 9th. I started looking on the boards last March and there were beautiful pics of flower arrangments by a bride and I can't remember where those are now. An example the bride gave; her bouquet was only 3 hydrageas (beautiful though) cost was $80. So, if you can afford that for 3 flowers do so. I wanted orchids, bird of paradise, hydrageas, and a few more select flowers; I am all about the FLOWERS! :) So, I spent the last year shopping in all kinds of florists, craft stores and found silks that look like real flowers and had a floral designer here locally put it together. It is magnificent and I KNOW what it will look like. I can not tell you what it cost to put together because I bartered my time for that. If you really like flowers and don't want to compromise on them, you have to find what you want and send RCCL the picture, they will then give you a quote from their florist. Decide after that if you can live with the price.

Ladies, mailmamma (fldogmassage, this is where we originally met, remember?) on another board gave the rundown on the wedding preliminary: port at 10:30, load, holding, two rooms; one for bride one for groom. Other guests were set up in a lounge area to wait for the ceremony to begin (that's not bad). I suppose that is where they serve them the "Welcome beverage" (do you think?). Pre-photos taken of the bride preparing for her day (nice touch). Then the officiant talks to the bride and groom (YIKES HE SEES US BEFORE THE ACTUAL WALK DOWN THE ISLE; do you think we can change this somehow?) The ceremony is about 15 mintues, more pics taken with bride and groom, family, friends, etc. Then bride and groom are taken away to take pics around the ship. This is where it gets foggy for me! If we have only 1 hour for reception, and only 1 hour with photographer, then we are losing time with our guests who will disembark shortly after we are finished with the photographer. Oh, and the 2 hour Formal Luncheon is no longer available on the Oasis and Allure says my paperwork which was given to me after fldogmassage was given her paperwork. I have lots of questions because of this time problem, I have 44 guests, 23 cruisers, I want to spend some time with my non-cruising guests who are flying in as far as Texas for the 15 minute wedding! NO COMMUNICATION since the email with the final selection paperwork. I will wait a few weeks, I am within the 60 day mark too. But if they wait unit the 45 mark and say ASAP, I going to ask them where they were 15 days ago!

You know at 45 days they will not say ASAP since I am less than 30 days out an dthey are no where to be found when I try to contact them.

Sorry ladies I know in the beginning you wanted a great review and communication for me was great at first as well as for ccsci. I will keep you posted on when they finally talk with me and answer questions.

Jojot, your wedding cruise sounds wonderful. It is only recently that RCCL actually can do weddings at sea. That was not an option when I was looking into getting married on the Allure. I would have opted for that idea. I got your friend request awhile ago, but could not get it to work. Finally did get it to go after trying very hard, but still not sure really. So you are going on the Allure and getting married, getting off, and then cruising towards the UK for your honeymoon on the Independence? I am not sure what the TA meant. The message boards are new to me. The entire trip is going to last how long?

You ladies all have me excited about the potential idea of getting married on the Oasis at the end of the year (though who knows if they'll take me this "late" in the game).

Does anyone know how it works if you get married at sea, are you considered under US law? If you're married when the ship is in a port, say I dont know, Mexico or Jamaica, are you not considered married in the US? How does that all work? lol

I'm new to this idea. We both got overwhelmed with the idea of a traditional wedding on land and this kinda happened where both my mom and his mom will be on a cruise with us and well, maybe we just might do it there and not do the traditional land thing, maybe we'll have a party on land after the fact for other friends/family not on the cruise.

I'm just trying to understand the logistics of it all. I'm SO not the typical bride. I really don't have much opinion on the flowers, or the decorations, or any of that. I really just care about the dress, the man in the tux, and getting married in front of some family/friends.

You will probably be in sovereign waters so you may want to look that up because I do not know what laws would apply to that in marriage. That is really something all brides should think about. What laws govern the marriage is an important question.

However, getting married by the Captain, does sound so very romantic!!! I would have done it if it were available last year when I was booking my wedding!

I don't think its too late if there are not too many weddings alerady booked for the day you are wantint to get married. It seems that if you are marrying at sea, you are waiting for the day the Captain has available. Those of us getting married on embarkation day know the day, not exactly the time or the place until its much closer to the date.

I can't wait for this wedding's final review. I am excited for all the brides, including myself!!
