Can someone who has disembarked on Celebrity at Yokohama recently, give me an idea about how long it took you to get off the ship?

Can you do just walk off taking your luggage, or must you sit in lounge, waiting for your number to be called?

Has anyone done the ship's excusion to Tokyo to airport drop off? Did you enjoy it?

Haikou - I don't speak Japanese and while my son can read & write a bit, he is far from fluent. The only place we had trouble was at the train station. There is a moving display on the train that tells you which train you are catching - but most of it is in Kanji and the display in English only comes around sporadically. You don't have much time to decide as each train may be 2 minutes apart. I ran on to the train and a Japanese man ran off the train with me to look at the display - he wasn't sure if my ticket matched the train until he looked.

Turns out there is a display board hanging down from the ceiling at each train entrance - which is what I should have been looking at as English is displayed as well as Japanese characters. This was the only station we weren't escorted by our relatives, so we were so sheltered we didn't learn the basics.

Tara Jane - we did the Japan rail pass and traveled around Japan quite a bit.

Spent a day in Yokohama, a few in Kobe, then on to Hiroshima and then back to Tokyo for the last few days of our trip.

We only had one day in Hiroshima, and it really wasn't enough. The train trip took 4 hours each way, even as fast as the bullet trains go. We could have used another day, saw the dome and peace memorial park, as well as the museum - heart breaking but I agree important to see at least once in your life.

I would have loved to see Miyajima Island, but it would have taken another full day.

Dog - we had far too much luggage so couldn't have attempted the self disembark. As I recall once we finally were called it was very quick & painless going through the cruise terminal & Customs. Lines were short, it seemed a very well organized port.

Were there any ports (Japan/Korea)where it took a long time to get off?

We need current info on reasonable transport from Yokohama Port Terminal to our hotel in Tokyo on September 24th. Cannot find any shuttles available. We are seniors and don't want to haul our luggage by train, or ship it in advance, Taxis cost more than $300 USD, we presume per trip, not per person! Would appreciate any recommendations.

There are 4 options from Yokohama to Tokyo:

Taxi - You don't want to pay.

Bus - There are transfer buses from the major hotels in Yokohama to Tokyo.

Train - You don't want to use it.

Rental Car - You need an international drivers license and training to drive in Japan.

There is a fifth option; stay at a hotel in Yokohama.

A sixth option; stay home.

Great recommendations!. We are still laughing. We checked: our very nice hotel in Ginza has no shuttles to anywhere, arrival or departing, But it does have a toilet. (That never crossed my mind..) Discover Japan Tours emailed us back with a reasonable quote, which we are going to accept. We appreciate so much the suggestions which members of Cruise Critic gave us. Our trip is now fully booked and we are relieved !.

Was going to suggest Discover Japan Tours (Yosuke Yokokura)--but glad to see you found it yourself. :D

Through these always very helpful CC boards, I found Yosuke two years ago (when DH Dave and I were planning our two weeks IN Japan pre-cruise AND port-call tours) for private tours in Tokyo and surrounding areas and for our airport arrival -> hotel transfer.

Yosuke is OUTSTANDING! His personally conducted tours were marvelous (some for just my husband and me from our Tokyo hotel; some from the ship with a few of our roll-call mates).

For details, take a look at my May 2015 review on Cruise Critic's sister/parent site, TripAdvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g1066458-d7980960-r275792016-Discover_Japan_Tours_Day_Tours-Suginami_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html

And have a super time in delightful Japan!

We are also staying at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo for four days after the cruise. We are on the Mar 26 to Apr 11 cruise. There is a shuttle named Veltra only for Diamond Princess customers only that go to the downtown hotels including the Keio Plaza Hotel for $62,50 each.
