Cruise eats! The best you had at port?

The best meal I've had at any cruise port was in Cartagena, Spain. We ordered paella for lunch and it was incredible! Sadly, I have no idea what the name of the restaurant was, and I can't find a picture of it, either. We must have been too excited to dig in to stop and take a photo first, but it was impressive. It had shrimp with the heads still on and some sort of seafood that we couldn't quite recognize (and we are avid seafood eaters)!

We also had the best coffee (or possibly the best drink, period) of my life there. I'm sure someone here will remember the name of it because CC is how I learned to be on the lookout for it. It was strong coffee with sweetened condensed milk and Licor 43. We still have a little Licor 43 left that we brought back with us two years ago. I may have to make myself one of those coffees this weekend!

We don't usually eat much during a cruise stop, perhaps because we usually prefer to eat on the ship.

However, we had a wonderful meal at a Greek restaurant called Kotoli, when we were in Piraeus Port for Athens, Greece.

Two platters of food for the 6 of us. I even made a video!

Those platters look amazing. Thank you for sharing the vid. I think a trip to the Mediterranean might be in our future lol

While at Port in Cozumel, we went to Margarita Ville pretty close by where we docked. Me and my family got the Volcano Nachos and man were they ever good!! It was the best nachos I've ever had.. Probably one of the best meals I've ever had!! To this day we still talk about those nachos. If ever at Margarita Ville, get the Volcano Nachos! :)

I 100% agree they are the best Nacho's ever!

We just returned from our cruise. While in Jamaica, we visited Doctor's Cave in Montego Bay and there's a little restaurant on the beach that we ate at. My DH and I shared the jerk platter (combo of jerk chicken, pork, and sausage) and it was delicious! They had good drinks, too. We were traveling with my husband's family and there were 14 of us total. There were several people in the group who are rather picky and afraid of trying anything "weird" or unusual or eating in unfamiliar places, and one member who has a severe gluten allergy that limits their options, so when we travel as a group, we usually end up eating in chain restaurants, i.e. Hard Rock, Bubba Gump, etc. I don't mind chain restaurants, (Bubba Gump is one of my favorites), and when you have a large group it's easier for everyone to find something they like and can eat. But I was really happy to get to try one of the local places while in Jamaica as I love trying new and different things. I think only three others in our party had the food there, the rest waited until they got back to the port or on the ship to eat. :D

What an awesomely fun thread. I just gained 10 more pounds... Gee thanks!...

Maybe not the "best" per se, but one of my memorable meals was a stop in Nassau. We were there for "Flag Day" and there was a festival set up in the main square. I found a small stand and ordered fried fish and crab rice. I sat down on the sea wall and ate it and really enjoyed eating the local food.

It looked so good that a local stopped and asked "where did you get that?".

Here is a little food porn video I just made the other day, to get you hungry for lunch...

Goldie's at the Fish Fry in Nassau. I had the jerked chicken with rice and pigeon peas. Can't wait to have again in August. Yum! But this time I will order the macaroni and cheese. DH had it, but wouldn't share. It was definitely the hit of the day with everyone who ordered it.

under the bridge in Nassau is row of shacks....pretty cleaned up now as opposed to 10 years ago... best conch ceviche and fresh fried fish. And you can get a drink...with the one bottle of alcohol. As it gets later , it gets a lil wild , but oh that fresh food.

And the fresh lobster and grilled fish off the coast of belize. Sat under an awning and just ate bc it was pouring rain.

We loved Gladys' Cafe in Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas. Great fresh fish and plantain---

I was just going to say this! Amazing! I try to find food that I wouldn't eat at home and OMGOSH I still talk about their oxtail stew with "rations." It has been 2 years. I keep their hot sauce in my fridge, a little bit is just enough.

A tie for sure.

1. A fish and chips shack right on the dock in Ketchikan. DH and I shared a basket of halibut and fries TEN years ago, and we still talk about it. I understand that they have expanded and moved off the dock but we will find them again, should we ever get back there.

2. Two years ago in Guernsey we got off the bus from a shore-ex and were going to take the tender back to the ship. There was a large crowd and it started to rain so we ran for a small coffee shop type place just down the street. They had a sign out for lobster salad so we ordered two of those. They didn't take credit cards or, usually, US money but they asked us to wait while they called the bank for the conversion. All was well and it was the most amazing salad we ever had. Huge, with eggs, beets, everything you could put on a salad plus an enormous serving of lobster. It ended up costing $40 for lunch for the two of us and was worth every penny.

Interested in that seafood shack in Ketchikan.  Do you remember the name?

Every time we dock in Grand Cayman we have to get our fish tacos and Painkiller fix at the Sunshine Grill. The tacos are crazy delicious and the Painkillers go down easy....It's in The Sunshine Suites and it's the hotel's little poolside bar and grill...open air, nice and relaxing, and every time I'm there, I just want to jump right in the pool after lunch.

1) Tropicante in Costa Maya. I ate nachos in every port and these were by far the best I have ever had anywhere! Everything we ordered there was absolutely delicious and the owner is great as well. We were not very excited about Costa Maya as a port but now I can't wait to go back to Tropicante

2)  Mangos picked fresh off the tree while horseback riding in Mazatlan.

3) Kermit's Key Lime Kitchen. My mom and I were both looking for seafood for lunch and didn't want a full sit down meal. We saw that they had a daily fish and shrimp special on their signboard so we went in. We both ended up with the coconut shrimp basket (the special)  and they were delicious. I don't think I will ever be able to order or make coconut shrimp again because these were so much better. Their fries were also very good. Everything was clearly fresh cooked, someone was out front cooking orders on a grill. I would go back again in a heartbeat!

Sunset Restaurant & Bar in Cozumel. Hosted a SNUBA excursion as well at facility. Staff incredible...never felt like a tourist with anyone. More like a guest in their home or a long lost friend.

To the food...seafood pizza!!! So fresh and only $9. Dining on the beach with our feet in the sand only made it taste that much better!! Homemade tortilla, grilled with melted cheese, topped with lightly seasoned and grilled shrimp, scallops, and squid. YUM!!!!!
