Rare whitshel Posted June 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2013 Good question, mine too. She will turn 18 about 20 days before our cruise. Are the casinos 18 and up or 21 and up?

Anyone 18 and older is welcome to play in Royal Caribbean casinos unless you are sailing in Alaska which therefore the casino is restricted adults 21 and older. emeraldcity Posted June 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2013 If you are sailing out of a non-US port, your fledgling adult will also be able to buy their own drinks, although I don't believe they can buy them for anyone else. We sailed out of Panama last year and my DD got the biggest kick out of sliding her own sea pass card across the bar and handling that little transaction on her own. ChattaCruzer Posted June 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2013 My daughters and I took a short cruise last summer - the first one since my oldest had turned 18. We laughed that her sea pass had her listed as "Gold" whereas my younger daughter and I were "Platinum". We assumed its because she had turned 18 since her last cruise. We sail Sunday on the Freedom and I'll know for sure if younger daughter is listed as "Gold" since turning 18 several months ago, especially if my 14 year old son is listed as "Emerald" (cause that last cruise bumped me up). This is from RC's website: "For all tiers except Pinnacle Club, a relationship is defined as a spouse or significant other and children less than 18 years old. For Pinnacle Club a relationship is considered a spouse and/or significant other. Children will be taken out of a relationship with a parent or guardian upon their 18th birthday date. If it is found that a dependent or child is not immediately removed from a relationship upon their 18th birthday and accumulates a higher tier status outside of this time period, the dependents record will be adjust back to the appropriate tier status." They will inherit whatever status you have when they turn 18 and they will keep it. They just can't get to the next level without reaching the required number of points on their own. I have a similar situation. All my kids are over 18. My two oldest are Emerald (my status when they turned 18) and my youngest is Diamond (my status when he turned 18). ChattaCruzer Posted June 12, 2013 #9 Share Posted June 12, 2013 I thought I was Platinum when she turned 18, but may not have reached it until December of '10 and she turned 18 earlier that year, so maybe I was still Gold at the time. It's hard to tell because I think that was around the time they were adjusting cruise points and status levels. I'm sure there's a way to figure it out, but its not that important. Besides, if DD #2 is Emerald this time around - she turned 18 after I earned Emerald - then we'll know the answer. (Unfortunately, if that's the case, DD #1 may harp about how unfair it is sometimes to be the oldest. :()

Two oldest are Emerald and the youngest is Diamond. I tell them they should be grateful to be Emerald since technically, they don't even have the points for that! I think it is wise on Royal's part. Because my kids already have status, they are already pretty loyal to the line. And they have many years of cruising ahead of them!

Looking at the cruise history in your signature... unless any of those cruises prior to December 2010 were in a Grand Suite or above you would have still been gold at the time she turned 18. Your December 2010 cruise is the one that would have gotten you to Platinum status.
SWManiac Posted June 12, 2013 #12 Share Posted June 12, 2013 so am I correct in assuming that once DD turns 18 she will have my status (say diamond +) but will only have the "points she's accrued on her own. as of right now she has about 22 so all the cruises she's actually been on will give her points? So she will be diamond + with only 22 cruise points? thanks for the help!! :D

ChattaCruzer Posted June 12, 2013 #14 Share Posted June 12, 2013 Yep...looking at the numbers and credits earned for what we had booked, DD #1 missed Platinum by 1 measly point/credit! I won't be telling her it was that close.
duesouth Posted June 12, 2013 #15 Share Posted June 12, 2013 My son has turned 18 and it's his first cruise. Can you tell me, is he still allowed to join/hang out with the oldest teen group? Thanks for the replies...:)
ChattaCruzer Posted June 12, 2013 #16 Share Posted June 12, 2013 And since she cruised with me last summer, DD#1 will be Platinum when she boards on Sunday. She'll be happy with that! (I may still have some explaining to do about younger siblings being Emerald, but she earned Platinum on her own.):)

Thanks for the replies...:) Nope, they cut em' off at 17 and don't make any exceptions. Find your roll call on the Royal Caribbean Meet & Mingle sub forum, there might be teens there that your son will be able to talk to prior to the cruise and then meet on board. Also, your son will be allowed to hang out in the nightclub so he may be able to meet people similar in age there too!
galavant3 Posted June 12, 2013 #21 Share Posted June 12, 2013 And she's only 678 points away from the next level! Doubtful that she'll get much sympathy on that! ChattaCruzer Posted June 12, 2013 #23 Share Posted June 12, 2013 My daughter's level was still showing up as Gold - and all my figuring had her at Platinum, even if she was Gold when she turned 18. So I called C&A asking them to clarify. I was right - she should have been Platinum at this point according to my level and how she would progress after turning 18. The problem is said child HAS TO BE ENROLLED IN C&A PRIOR TO TURNING 18 - and my child wasn't. Every point she has, she earned herself - all 25 - enough to be Gold. She'll advance after next week's cruise. So, folks, offspring only retain their parents' C&A level if you enroll them before they can vote. Lesson learned.
cruisingram1 Posted June 13, 2013 #24 Share Posted June 13, 2013 Does this mean kids are not accruing any points on their own? I'm confused. Our entire (extended) family will turn Platnimum with our next cruise. My granddaugthers have been on all the same cruises as their parents and have the same points. Or so I thought. When they turn 18 (in 6-8 years from now) they will probably still be platinum, or perhaps Emerald based on their own cruising history. Or do they not have a history and just take on their parents regardless of their own points???

What the poster was describing above was a way for kids to get a C&A level higher than what is warranted by their own points. Kids can get their parent's C&A level if they join C&A before their 18th birthday.
