aideek2000 Posted August 24, 2013 Author #51 Share Posted August 24, 2013 Our sign is just a simple clip art and a message taped to door that is carried with all other cruise documents. Maskin tape for easy removal.
Happy ks Posted August 24, 2013 #52 Share Posted August 24, 2013 Just because it's outside doesn't give the right to take what is NOT YOURS! I decorate our doors. We've met people just by them coming by to look. When we opened the door and they saw the decorations on the inside, they start calling their family and friends to come and see. We've already been asked if they could use our room for their celebration party. Unfortunately, one too many people liked my decorations and took one too many, now it's because of people like this "the ones who take what doesn't belong to them" is the reason I don't decorate anymore. Of course not, but you cannot control what other people do. Especially unsupervised adolescents. I'd never steal or move a door decoration, if I won't bother to bring any for ourselves, why would I want someone else's? I'm just not surprised that it happens. beachchick Posted August 24, 2013 #53 Share Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) We don't decorate our doors on cruises or any vacation. We also have no problem if others enjoy doing so. As long as the decorations are not obtrusive (once, there were balloons as part of the decorations that kept flapping into the passageway and causing a problem; they were taken down after the first day), insulting to others, or against cruise line rules, it's just something that makes people happy. One note is that the cruise lines are very particular about passengers not using tape of any kind because it can harm the paint on the doors and walls of the cabins. I remember reading a few instances where people were actually charged for damages caused by the use of tape. Other than that, as long as it doesn't interfere with others or with safety, what's the harm? beachchick Edited August 24, 2013 by beachchick
TheDivineMrsM Posted August 24, 2013 #54 Share Posted August 24, 2013 We are planning our very first cruise for next summer...I would love to see some photos of these decorated doors! It's definitely something I'd be interested in doing.
finiansbay Posted August 24, 2013 #55 Share Posted August 24, 2013 This is the first cruise on which I plan to decorate our door(s). It embarks on Halloween and, most importantly, we are going with our 2 yr. old grandson and his parents. I plan to let him help put up the Pirate Mickey Mouse "parts". I am not too concerned about anyone stealing it. I might have to decorate the inside as well though, just so he won't want to open the door to have a look! TheDivineMrsM Posted August 24, 2013 #58 Share Posted August 24, 2013 Love the pictures of the decorated doors! The ones with your photos attached to cartoon drawings is so cute. Is that one big sheet of paper? How did you attach that and your netting/life preserver to the door?

Boozebabe Posted August 25, 2013 #60 Share Posted August 25, 2013 I do simple. I found hair clips at the Dollar store that had big bright colored silk flowers on them. They look tropical.. I just clip one on my mailbox outside the door. I can see the bright pink or green flower from a distance and know how much further the room is. cruisecritiquer Posted August 25, 2013 #63 Share Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) We don't. Finding our stateroom has never been a problem. I wasn't aware it was an issue for some, although I guess I could understand it being a problem for an unescorted child or some elderly folks. I've never done it either but this post and some others sound extremely condescending to the OP. I've never seen any decorating on NCL except for a small wreath on a Thanksgiving cruise. I guess the poster has never toured for 8 hours, eaten dinner and faced a quarter mile of doors that look alike. I'm not a child or elderly, either. Swells1 Posted August 25, 2013 #65 Share Posted August 25, 2013 I wouldn't say that I decorate my cabin door. In December, I took my mom on her first cruise, and I was afraid (needlessly) that she would have problems finding the cabin. So I bought a cute magnet that says "Home Sweet Home" from the Dollar Tree and put on the door. She kept it and it's on her fridge now- a daily reminder of the trip. marshhawk Posted August 25, 2013 #66 Share Posted August 25, 2013 I decorated our door on our honeymoon, i drew a bottle of honey and a moon...our CC freinds knew it was us, it had our "names" on them. Third cruise, nope, 4th cruise, yup, fish on the door, put some on our friends door too, she was surprised and happy. On our last cruise, I made a map of the places in the caribbean we were going, On the ports I wrote down our excursions. Since none were through the ship, if we didn't come back, at least the crew would know where we got lost:eek:, Next cruise-Halloween, yup, the door will be decorated and the friends who are going with us on their first cruise? Yup, I am decorating their door too. Seems right to share the love.
t60 Posted August 25, 2013 #67 Share Posted August 25, 2013 Yikes...a bit much. Yes that´s the point This was a BIG cruise for us as we were away for 6 weeks and travelling half way round the world, then cruising round a country as big as USA. There were many ports of call and each had a pic of 1 or 2 of the main attractions, plus few pics relating to Aus history, natural history together with some jokey pics re Aussies in hats with corks, and a note about Australian speak. Our door was Australia condensed onto half a door frame! Sandy in Spain
Ehpride Posted August 25, 2013 #68 Share Posted August 25, 2013 I just think it's fun. It also helped my Grandma recognize the room when we cruised with her because she had a hard time remembering the room number. We decorate the inside of the cabin too. I figure a cruise is a celebration and a party so it's fun to decorate accordingly. Next cruise is a flamingo theme!

marinacc Posted August 25, 2013 #74 Share Posted August 25, 2013 Are all ships doors metal? I'll be on the Conquest in Feb. '14 and I think something small on the door like a picture or magnets would make it Much easier for my 13 yr old.
