ABoatNerd Posted September 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2013 A wonderful day Cruise Critic members! We are contemplating a South America cruise aboard Infiniti from Valparaiso Chile terminating in Buenos Aires. The cruise would include sailing inter coastal waterways at the bottom of Chile. For maximum viewing from a balcony - is the port or starboard preferred? We presume the port as land would be on that side moving south and again north Your guidance and expertise would be appreciated Kindest Regards ABoatNerd
sddsddean Posted September 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2013 Whilst you might spy land from a port balcony coming down from Valparaiso, I don't think it will make much difference in the Chilean 'fjords' as they are on both sides. The only other place that may make a difference is Cape Horn. We came down from BA so Cape Horn was on the starboard side (as was our balcony!), but you more or less backtrack to go to Ushaia. Presumably you will do Ushaia then Cape Horn, so I think (dangerous, I know!) that again the cape will be on the starboard side. It would be nice to get a confirmation from someone who has done the west-east cruise. Simon
sollan Posted September 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2013 Hi We have done this cruise and they went down (Horn on starboard) and then turned around to get back (Horn on port side). We didn't have a balcony due to the cold weather. We had very hard wind at the Horn but sunny so we could see the Horn quite well from deck. A wonderful Cruise!
