sjmbruce Posted September 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2013 I'm trying to plan my day in Juneau. It starts at 8am. Is that way too early to head downtown to the shops and everything? Thanks!
Budget Queen Posted September 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 12, 2013 Some shops will be open. Look up each museum of interest for their operating hours.

AKman2495 Posted September 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 12, 2013 Remember, the economy of Juneau, for the most part, is based on the Legislature meeting in the winter and on tourists in the summer. The shops know when the cruise ships are arriving and what times they get there. As for "heading downtown"....depending on where the ship ties up, that could be as little as a 5 minute walk.... AmberCascades Posted September 16, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2013 When I was in the planning stages I was told that the shops stay open as long as the ship is in port. We found that to not strictly be true, however. The "local" stores seem to keep normal store hours (i.e. 9 or 10 till 6:00) and the port stores (i.e. jewellery stores and those run by the cruise lines) seem to be the ones open later. If there are places you specifically want to go to, check the hours before you go and plan your trekking accordingly.
