canuckcruiselover Posted September 15, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2013 Returned last Monday -- our third time on the ship. The Majesty is perfect for a 3 or 4 night getaway. It’s still in great shape and there is nothing I can fault about it except maybe that there was a lot of vibration for some reason which was a little uncomfortable at times. Don’t know why because the sea was calm. We decided to upgrade to a JS this time and it was well worth the extra dollars to have such a spacious room and large balcony. Some people say that the Majesty’s JS is the same size as a regular balcony room on other ships. I disagree. I think the JS is bigger and the balcony is definitely larger. We decided to skip the MDR completely this time and enjoyed dinners in the WJ – faster, better variety and certainly decent enough food. DH and I find the MDR on all the ships way too pretentious and, frankly, not worth spending 1.5 hours per meal IMHO. We also travel light and don't do formal nights. I don't think there should even be a formal night on a 3-night cruise but each to his own. From what I could see, though, most people didn't dress up. For casino fans, the host told me that they are hoping to change all the machines to ticket in – ticket out in October and the ships is scheduled to stay in service until 2016. By the way, I did well on the video poker with a Royal Flush on Deuces Wild. Overall, though, there didn't seem to be many jackpot announcements. If I lived in Florida, I think I would be on the Majesty every couple of weeks (like some of the people we met on board). As it is, the flight from Toronto costs more than the cruise:(
lrn2cruise Posted September 15, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2013 I would be with you on those short get-a-way cruises if I lived in Florida! I would find thos last minute deals and jump on. I would love to do a short cruise. The airfare would probably be more than the cruise I am with you on eating in the WJ too. MDR is too long and pretensions to us also Glad you had a great time
MagicNMe Posted September 15, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2013 Did you happen to catch who was playing at the Schooner Bar? Will be on Majesty on the 4-night in 6 weeks. Can't wait! Is the cafe above the windjammer that has the crepes open on Embarkation day for lunch?
karena1 Posted September 15, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2013 We love Majesty for our little weekend getaways! Living in Florida makes it so easy and we have the flexibility of waiting until the last minute to book so get some awesome deals because of it. Just booked another one today for early Oct. Will be our 23rd time on Majesty! :) Love getting on the ship and having so many of the staff know us by name. Even the security guys know us now!! bonnier Posted September 15, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2013 The Compass Deli is open on embarkation day but you couldn't get the dessert crepes. My husband had a ham and brie sandwich which was very good. We got off the MJ on Friday. We too booked the last minute and snagged a good deal. The Compass Deli also had 3 different soups, salads, paninis, and cookies.
Rare shipshape sam Posted September 16, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2013 We too would love to sail a few more times on the long week-end cruises, but alas, live a little bit too far to do them a few times a year. Would be nice! :) We have done a number of the week-end cruises and they were great though.
Coralc Posted September 16, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2013 If I lived in Florida, I think I would be on the Majesty every couple of weeks (like some of the people we met on board). As it is, the flight from Toronto costs more than the cruise:( Just out of curiosity....how long does it take to fly from Toronto to Miami? From the West Coast in CA, it adds an extra day to our Florida trips to fly there. And then usually an additional day after we get home with the time change and laundry. We might retire to Florida. :D
nicoleinwi Posted September 16, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 16, 2013 Glad to hear you had a great cruise. We're going on her over thanksgiving. How was the nightly entertainment in the main theater?
yogimax Posted September 16, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 16, 2013 The Compass Deli is open on embarkation day but you couldn't get the dessert crepes. This seems to be their procedure on all cruises... deli open but no dessert crepes.

From the West Coast in CA, it adds an extra day to our Florida trips to fly there. And then usually an additional day after we get home with the time change and laundry. canuckcruiselover Posted September 16, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted September 16, 2013 Glad to hear you had a great cruise. We're going on her over thanksgiving. How was the nightly entertainment in the main theater? David Orion, the comedian, was hilarious last time we were on the ship and just as funny this time. His act changes every time because his jokes are aimed at the audience -- don't sit in the front row if you don't want to be picked on. We didn't bother with the Boogie Wonderland show as we walked out of it last time after about 10 minutes. Just too amateurish.
canuckcruiselover Posted September 16, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted September 16, 2013 This seems to be their procedure on all cruises... deli open but no dessert crepes. They also didn't have crepes on the day the ship was in Coco Cay.

canuckcruiselover Posted September 16, 2013 Author #15 Share Posted September 16, 2013 That's not too long. Thanks. No, the flight's not too long but it is very expensive to fly from Toronto. Occasionally, we drive to Buffalo (1.5 hours) and fly from there (half the price) but in the winter, it's just not worth the hassle of a possible blizzard and heavy traffic. reedl Posted September 16, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 16, 2013 A couple of years ago, I went on the Majesty for a four night M-F cruise, and thoroughly enjoyed my time. It was great having three days always in some port. If I could I would book another trip on that ship as soon as possible. I actually enjoy the smaller ships since you are not overwhelmed with things to do.
wmp.dll Posted September 16, 2013 #17 Share Posted September 16, 2013 I wish I lived in Florida so I could do long weekend trips on Majesty. That would certainly help me ascend the C&A scale. One of these days I'll do a 3 or 4 nighter, one of these days I'll probably also retire in Florida lol
jt1120 Posted September 16, 2013 #18 Share Posted September 16, 2013 That's why we've done her four times! She is just a great weekend escape! The ONLY downside is the smaller than usual cabins, but for a few days, I'll live. We've been on her before her last refurb and since and she is still perfection is a smaller cruise ship. In defense of Boogie Wonderland, it's not that bad a show at all. If you like the disco/Motown era, you'll love it. Only problem is, after you've seen it a few times, you're ready to move on to something else. Yep, we've got a warm spot in our heart for the Majesty. I'd jump on that ship any weekend. One of the reasons we moved to FLA!

We are in Niagara. At the moment I'm trying to get my husband to go back to pre cruise stays. We have not missed the ship as yet but, I'll be really upset with him if we do! Do you have pics? Who did you use to get to the port? We flew into Ft Lauderdale and used the airport GO Limo it was great but, pricey.
Rare BillOh Posted September 16, 2013 #20 Share Posted September 16, 2013 and the ships is scheduled to stay in service until 2016. I've been wondering that and was going to ask at the Crown and Anchor event next month as I suspect even with the date you mentioned, this maybe our last time on her. Thanks for the report. My 2010 cruise and 2013 were unplanned in a sense, so who knows.
RhondaC Posted September 16, 2013 #21 Share Posted September 16, 2013 We're doing a B2B on the Majesty in January! We've been trying other lines and ships for a couple of years, but are excited to get back on the Majesty. It kinda feels like home to us. :) We agree with you completely about eating in the MDR. We'd much rather relax in the Windjammer, instead of being on display for 2 hours in the MDR. Is there a nightly Diamond event? If so, where is it held now? Glad you had a good time! We have not missed the ship as yet but, I'll be really upset with him if we do! Do you have pics? Who did you use to get to the port? We flew into Ft Lauderdale and used the airport GO Limo it was great but, pricey. From Grimsby, you're just a hop, skip and a jump from Buffalo. Wish I lived closer to the border so I could buy ALL my groceries in Buffalo. As it is, we have a NEXUS card and visit once a month or so. It's expensive though if we happen to stop in at the Seneca or Fallsview Casinos! Back to the topic, we stayed in South Beach -- The Penguin. It's a great little art-deco hotel right on Ocean Drive. Wonderful location and reasonably priced for the area. The rooms are small but perfect for one night pre-cruise and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I think it cost $25 for the taxi to the port. There are so many beautiful pictures on this board that I won't post mine -- except for this really cute towel animal. Nkelly14 Posted September 19, 2013 #23 Share Posted September 19, 2013 What time can you get off the ship once you return to Miami? We will be cruising in January and need to book our flight home. Thanks.
jt1120 Posted September 19, 2013 #24 Share Posted September 19, 2013 I would bet you could get off the ship around 8-ish, perhaps earlier. They're pretty good about getting people with early flights off of the ship. Still, I wouldn't make my flight reservations too early. You just never know what could happen. canuckcruiselover Posted September 19, 2013 Author #25 Share Posted September 19, 2013 What time can you get off the ship once you return to Miami? We will be cruising in January and need to book our flight home. Thanks. There was some delay on our cruise and the early departures weren't until 8:30 I believe. We got off around 9:30 (and we only had carry-ons) and our flight wasn't until 1 pm so we had plenty of time.
