dongordon Posted September 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2013 Now that people are sailing out of NYC on the Breakaway with some chilly weather, I was wondering if anyone noticed if the pools are heated. I know that the hot tubs are always heated. Thanks. Don
WaldosPepper Posted September 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2013 The pools have been heated on every Norwegian ship I have ever sailed, so I would think that it is safe to expect the pools on the Breakaway to be heated as well. :)
dexddd Posted September 29, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2013 Typically they post the various pool temps on one of the ship's informational channels. Not sure if they do that on BA.

I know that because I have been in them, but you never know with new ships. Sometimes, they change things a little. :) Just hoping this is not one of them. It could be very cold water for me in January on the first day at sea! :D Don
ColinIllinois Posted September 29, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2013 The hot tubs are heated? What will they think of next? :D

Can you imagine the reviews and all the complaints! :)
younglegend Posted September 29, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2013 They were not heated on the Sept. 8 sailing.
kcwingwalker Posted September 29, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2013 They were not heated on the Sept. 8 sailing. Wow! I'm glad you posted. To me it's really surprising that the pools are not heated. That's something I would not be happy about. Thanks!

It could be very cold water for me in January on the first day at sea! :D Don A very valid point, and a change I certainly hope they never make. Considering the ship is designed to sail from NY year round, it would be a very foolish cutback! They were not heated on the Sept. 8 sailing. Was it warm enough outdoors that heating wasn't necessary? Also, I'm curious, did they broadcast the temperature of all the pools on the TV? dfg1027 Posted September 29, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 29, 2013 agree with younglegend The pool was not heated on our Sept 8th sailing....in fact the pool water was a tad to cold for me even then :(
cruisecritiquer Posted September 29, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 29, 2013 Not heated in September would be a bit different than not heated in December. That's for sure! But, I would like to know when they start. We have booked for end of Sept 2014.

SliceOfLife Posted September 30, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 30, 2013 They were heated on my sailing in May and the water slides are also heated.
Winston Wolf Posted September 30, 2013 #14 Share Posted September 30, 2013 I thought I remembered seeing that the pools were no heated, but the slides are. Maybe during Gambee's video tour?
jenny105 Posted September 30, 2013 #15 Share Posted September 30, 2013 The only ship I've ever been on where the pools have been heated was the Disney Magic - and that was in June sailing out of NYC! I don't remember any of the NCL pools being heated but I haven't sailed with them since 2005.
Rare Laszlo Posted September 30, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 30, 2013 I've been on the Gem and Breakaway. Neither of the pools were heated. The slides on the BA were heated and felt like bathwater.
dongordon Posted September 30, 2013 Author #17 Share Posted September 30, 2013 When I was on the Gem and the Jewel, the pools were heated when I went cruising on both in the winter leaving from NYC. I did not notice that until the second day at sea and I met someone who told me he was in the pool the first day at sea. It is not very warm, but warm enough to swim. It was certainly not the freezing temperature of the ocean in the winter. :) Don

runner15km Posted October 11, 2013 #22 Share Posted October 11, 2013 Sailed on Jewel from NYC in November '12 and pools were heated to 82F. Sailed Gem from NYC in April '13 and pools were heated to 82F. I guess its all about time of year and location, location and location. :D
