JusGetinStarted Posted November 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2013 Hi everyone, I am SLOWLY counting down to my very first cruise. Boyfriend and I will be on the Oasis. I have a question about alcohol on the ship. I know they have lots of bars on board the ship however can you buy a bottle of anything (i.e. Grey Goose) from one of the bars (on the ship) to take back to your room to enjoy too or can you only buy individual drinks from the bar and room service? Rare Scrapnana Posted November 6, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 6, 2013 If you buy a bottle of alcohol onboard, you do not get it until the last night of the cruise.

You can only buy liquor by the drink. You are permitted to carry on two 750 ml bottles of wine with you when you embark. You can also buy a bottle of wine at Vintages or through room service or in the dining rooms and restaurants. There is a duty-free shop on board, but any purchases that you make will be held for you and delivered to your cabin for packing on your last night. In my experience though, you can wander around with those bar drinks at will. A few obvious reasons for the policy I can think of... a) Money, b) All the minors wandering around, c) It's pretty easy to get caught up in the cruise and drink way too much. CrazyboutCruzn Posted November 6, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 6, 2013 While we are not first time cruisers, I did have a question kind of related to the topic. I noticed on a recent Allure Cruise Compass posted on another CC thread that RCCL offers a "Drink of the Day". They tell you what the drink is and the cost saying "....and the glass is yours to keep!" I was just wondering if you could order the Drink of the Day without the free plastic glass and would that change the cost of the drink? We used to be able to do that but we have not cruised in several years....wasn't sure if they had changed the policies. Any input would be greatly appreciated from those more knowledgeable. Many Thanks Judi and Jim

39august Posted November 6, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 6, 2013 I believe that policy has changed and the price remains the same now. Depending on the ship, there may be daily "happy hour" deals at different times, so watch your daily Compass. On FOS in Sept. there were two for one drinks in the casino at certain hours and two for one margaritas in one of the bars at certain hours. marjosagb Posted November 6, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 6, 2013 To the OP - seeing as this is your first cruise, also keep in mind that there is already a built in gratuity automatically added to all bar drink purchases. Feel free to add an ADDITIONAL tip if you like...but just something to keep in mind incase you didn't know.
ahecht Posted November 6, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 6, 2013 Yes, you can. :D Not any more. Within the past year or two they changed the policy. It used to be that the drink of the day was $6.20+$2.75 for the souvenir glass. Now it's just $6.75 flat, but no discount for a regular glass (and frankly, given how flimsy those glasses are, it probably costs them just as much to wash a regular glass as it does to give you a plastic one). hansolosmom Posted November 7, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 7, 2013 Does RC not do a bar set-up like other lines? We're not line loyal so I get them mixed up, but I know in the past we've pre-purchased a bottle of Rum and mixers which was in our room at embarkation. I also remember. it's ridiculously expensive, like $60 for the bottle and 6 cans of soda.

I don't drink but there are threads about how to bring alcohol such as Grey Goose or whatever on board with you. Just search "rum runners" or "smuggling" and they will come up. Enjoy Edited November 8, 2013 by Tripper10
