Red Hat Cruise Cat Posted November 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2013 Looking for info about this port. Can you walk from the ship to outside the port gates? How far? If not, is there transportation? Are there taxis readily available outside of the terminal? Suggestions for a transportation company?
peterscot Posted November 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 7, 2013 If its the same place I passed on a boat trip to Ballestas Islands, then it is across the bay from Paracas, and surrounded by desert! You could walk it into town, in a couple of hours, but I suspect the local taxis will be lining up for business when a ship comes in. Have a look at it on Google earth.... Why did you pass on the boat trip? On our upcoming cruise. that trip is already sold out, so we are casting about for something interesting to do at this port. peterscot Posted November 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 13, 2013 I was staying in Paracas, and the cruise terminal was across the bay, en route to the islands. Other activities could include a tour of the adjacent national park (good scenery); a trip to a fishing village (in the park) for a very fresh and picturesque seafood lunch; explore the desert (mostly gravel) by dune buggy or bike.... Then there's museums about the Paracas culture, discovered by Dr Tello. Pre-dates the Incas by about 1000 years, and had developed the finest weaving seen in South America. Worth going to the Larco Museum in Lima to see more.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 13, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 13, 2013 You can walk from the ship to the port entrance. It is about a 15 minute walk. You can then walk to the local town (not Pisco) which is what we did. One way we walked on the city side and the way back we walked along the shore. smalltowner Posted November 18, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 18, 2013 Which cruise line were you with? Were you docked at San Martin? Was the local town you walked to called Paracas? How long did it take you to walk there?
