metphan714 Posted November 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2013 As I plan my next cruise I realized that I usually try to sail the same month and wondered if that is typical. I usually choose May, because the weather at home is nice enough that I shouldn't have issues flying to my port. and the weather isn't too hot in the Caribbean yet, and also I don't think it's peak season yet since school hasn't let out yet. What say you?
CRUISEFAN0001 Posted November 17, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) We generally look into the Feb-May timeframe (least rainfall in many Caribbean locations). Most islands have websites with monthly rainfall averages. Edited November 17, 2013 by CRUISEFAN0001
coordinator23 Posted November 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 17, 2013 I find that cruising is cheaper between Thanksgiving and Christmas vacations(school) and in January-mid-Feb. We will fly into Puerto Rico next month before the holidays for about half the rate of flying in a few weeks later. May is also a cheaper month to cruise because May tends to be a social month for many ( Mother's Day, First Communions, Confirmations, College graduations, upcoming High School Graduations, etc.) so not as many people are able to cruise. We've found holiday cruises also mean MUCH HIGHER AIRFARES to and from ports...not a good thing. The weather is also not as warm in Caribbean cruise ports. panoramaofthepast Posted November 17, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Late November - Early December [after Thanksgiving, before Christmas] Second week of January - mid February These times tend to have lower prices and fewer kids! A lot depends on where you want to cruise and how long the cruise is!
mrpayroll Posted November 17, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Third or fourth week of January....Have to get away from the cold here in Michigan. ( and the prices are always GREAT ) :)

George C Posted November 17, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 17, 2013 We always vacation about Thanksgiving, we will do Sandals next week, when we cruise we do week after Thanksgiving to save money and avoid children ( have been doing this over 20 years), we also normally cruise in May whiile children on still in school, 90 percent of cruises/trips are Caribbean. ( we do about 4 cruises then do a AI)

1ParticularHbr Posted November 17, 2013 #13 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Favorite month is mid-October for good prices, not many kids (except on European routes), & no weather delays w/flights. Second favorite time is late Jan-Feb because it saves us from getting cabin fever here in the cold north ;)
At Sea 4Ever Posted November 17, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 17, 2013 For my DH and I we love the super hot weather. So June and July are ideal but with our schedules it rarely happens that way. My busiest time at work is during the summer months so leaving my clients for that long of time is really not an option. Plus we have beaches an hour away from where we live so on the weekends we drive down there. For my DH November thru January is super crazy and stressful at work so having a cruise booked in the February thru early April time gives us something to look forward to. We like booking one in the late fall as well to break up the year.
cruiselover2890 Posted November 17, 2013 #15 Share Posted November 17, 2013 I would love to go during the summer but the only time we've ever cruised is Thanksgiving because all of the kids in my family are out of school for the holiday! The prices are also cheaper during this time vs going during the summer.
Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted November 17, 2013 #16 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Nov - Dec higher airfare higher cruise prices most of the time Jan-Feb rougher seas due to cold/windy weather and too cool March-April- higher airfare, spring break, no way ever! July- Sept 7 too hot, too many kids, higher prices Which leaves us only wanting: May, June and October, my favorite months!! I do prefer May for first choice kids still in school. Lady Chew Posted November 17, 2013 #17 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Jan/Feb to get away from the cold ... Spring or fall for our longer exploration cruises ... We do understand that there are certain times of year that are better for pricing or non-crowding, but overall - we'll cruise any time!!
debshomespun Posted November 17, 2013 #18 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Jan/Feb to get out of the cold winters.
ktbr11crs Posted November 17, 2013 #19 Share Posted November 17, 2013 We like April or May for our Spring cruise and September or October for our Fall cruise. There are great deals because the kids are in school and the weather is nice. People are surprised that we don't usually go in Winter to get away from the cold up here in MN, but it would be too stressfull. During one December cruise we took, we got 16 inches of show in one storm, and I was stressed out at the idea of getting home about midnight and not even being able to pull into my driveway. Fortunately a wonderful friend came over and cleared it all out!!
superduper123 Posted November 17, 2013 #20 Share Posted November 17, 2013 May is my first choice. Weather is usually great, and get to avoid the spring-breakers and summer crowds.
jcc1025 Posted November 17, 2013 #21 Share Posted November 17, 2013 We have enjoyed the first or second week of December. Air fairs drop after Thanksgiving, cruise rates are lower and sometimes RCCL gives double credits for sailing in December.
luvscruising2007 Posted November 17, 2013 #22 Share Posted November 17, 2013 We have cruise in June, September, December and January. I think I prefer January. It is after the holidays, won't do December again, and rates are often lower. I do like September, but yeah, January. Of course, when it comes right down to it, any month is okay.:D
skibyrd Posted November 17, 2013 #23 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Third or fourth week of January....Have to get away from the cold here in Michigan. ( and the prices are always GREAT ) :) Ditto - from Wisconsin, though,
cruiseapril Posted November 17, 2013 #24 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Our favorite time to cruise is sometime between March 15 and April 10, as this is often mud season in Maine. Then, when we return from the warmth, Spring has started and we usually don't have more snow (if we're lucky!)
OCruisers Posted November 17, 2013 #25 Share Posted November 17, 2013 For the Caribbean or the Panama Canal: Jan/Feb because it's cold at home but warm there. Summer for anyplace in Europe because we like to go when it will be warm. LuLu ~~~~
